Aftermarket Levers

Post by architect »

Do they have aftermarket levers anywhere? Something a bit modern like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Short-Brake-Clu ... 52&vxp=mtr

I have small hands and i find it's more comfortable to use this style from my last bike. But I can't seem to find anyone that makes it for the '88 FZR400s. Thanks!

I don't think you are going to find anything for the stock master cylinder. If you swap it out for an R6 unit you will have more luck finding aftermarket levers.

I looked around and didn't find anything. I swapped my entire clutch perch to one from an R6. That way I can use any of the available choices from a current R6. I'm swapping to an R6 master for the same reason...that and the performance upgrade.

That sucks... so much work just to get the lever closer to the bars ...

? Swapping the clutch perch is the work of a few minutes. Swapping the brake master is considerably more work, but has a much greater benefit than simply moving the lever closer to the bar.

Trying to figure out in doing that. Reading the forums and I hearing that the original cables have too much slack for the R6 perch/MC? Can anyone that has done this let me know what they have done exactly? Thanks for helping out a newb.

Okay, I'll take a couple extra pics today to help out.

Thanks, man.

I'm trying to figure out if I need to use a certain MC for it to work with the FZR. I'm guessing anything from 2007 onwards for both perch and MC will work? Can I use the same cables or are the lengths not correct? Do I need to bring calipers over too? I really have no idea how the MC is suppose to swap :S

Just about any later MC will work. It will be easier if you get a MC that is from the same bike and generation as your clutch perch so that you can order your new levers as a set. That doesn't really matter though if you are willing to just pay attention to which MC you go with and order levers individually.

I took a couple pics today. Just remove the shift lever, remove the sprocket cover, then on the backside remove the clutch cable. Once the clutch cable is free then find something to use as a spacer between the flange on the cable and the sprocket cover. Then reinstall everything. That will take out enough slack that you'll get proper adjustment at the lever.ImageImageImageImageImage

Thanks, Slick. The pictures help. The perch slide looks simple enough - just a matter of adding the spacer.

Do you have pics of your MC swap? Any advice on how to swap that since it seems like the more difficult one? Thanks again!

I haven't swapped mine yet but have done plenty of them in the past. It's a pretty straight forward procedure. Just do a search for brake bleeding for the proper procedure for after you do the swap.

Clean the cluch mechanism behind the sproket cover with some paraffin or kerasene, the old chain lube can make the action stiff.

What do you guys think about something like this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Fit-F ... 0e&vxp=mtr

It's the entire perch, lever, master cylinder replacement. Seems like a better deal and easier than hunting for individual used parts? Or is the OEM R6 cylinder the best?
