Spring Clean and some New Bits

Bike is due it's MOT so I took off the road for a few weeks to get some jobs done.

New fork dust seals and forks polished up to remove some pitting. New chain and 15/47 sprockets. New tyres, wheel bearings sorted, new (second hand front discs), brake master overhauled, all calipers deep cleaned, stainless rear hose, a broken indicator replaced. A fair bit of swearing at times with plenty of tea breaks to nurse bruised knuckles and figure out some gotchas.

After putting in new plugs it wasn't firing on number three. I had checked the coils and plugs that morning and knew they were good so went straight to the carb and that sorted it. Was a bit lean to start with but I had changed the float levels to 24mm because I feel it's been running a bit rich. I adjusted the mixture screws from 2 3/4 out to 3 turns and now and it seems a lot happier and so am I.

Can't wait to get the MOT done and get back on it in time for the nicer weather.

Very nice bike!!! What is your swing arm from? Is it a r6?

Hi Genesis,

It is the stock swing arm for the 3EN1 model and takes an 18 inch wheel. If a r6 swing arm could be made to fit the 400 it would be a nice option for a future 17 inch wheel conversion and keep the original look. Not heard of anyone who has done that swap so don't know if it is possible.

VERY clean example of a 400 you have there.

Nice. So nice and clean.

The R6 swing arm swap has been done. Not worth it. Lots of work, lots of fab, and in the end you have a cool looking swing arm on a less than ideal handling bike.

Lovely 3EN Clanky! By the way, how difficult is it to come by a nice set of the air tubes that are fitted to the 3EN1s? Here in the states, the ones on the 3HE dual-lamp 600 are simply the plain old black ones. I'd like to get a set of new'ish silver ones for my hybrid build (if I can find them). :headbang:

Pefrey, thanks for the update on the R6 swingarm swap being a confirmed PITA.

Hi Brandon, the air intake tubes come up on ebay every now and then. I'll send you a PM to see if I can help you out with finding some in the UK and post them over

MOT passed yesterday but no opportunity to go for a good long ride yet, rear brake feels soft so I want to bleed it again. The new 15/47 sprockets are great, the bike has it's 'oomph' back and it is definately better for riding in town traffic.
