winter project 2012-2013

well the holiday season was having its way with my time
i have finally got back to it with the project
looks like the components to make it a rolling chassies are ready
dissasembled and installed new wheel bearings, cleaned up the rotors and got some fresh Pirelli Diablos on them

got the forks sorted also
found a nice rebuild kit on ebay that had seals and bushings
figured i would clean up the lowers a bit by filing away the casting seam before i painted them
shock came back from Ohlins with a new spring and a seal/gas job- excellent folks to deal with there i should add

Nice job on the subframe, it looks amazing. What brand and colour did you use and did you prime it as well?

i have had really good luck with this rattlebomb product i get at auto zone
and i havent used primer with it either, even though i prolly should, its a very forgiving and durable product
i originally started using it for the swingarms on my RZ's as the color was a spot on match
i also found it insome other colors, like the clear i did the swinger above with and the "graphite" color i used on the fork lowers above
great product for the low cost

Thanks! I ended up getting mine powder coated. It looks great but is just a bit darker than stock.

thanks,i am only using rear turn signals- they are those tiny LED ones off ebay
Colorado does not require turn signals at all if you are willing to hand signal, which i do anyway- i do want the people behind me to see blinking lights because i am slowing down
i dont care about the front, and those guys in china or hong kong where those cheep plastics came from were nice enough to fill in the front cutouts for no charge(yes, they are as chinsy and poor fitting as everyone says)

that brace turned out really nice too, i will have to post up a pic
i am tossing around the idea of an upgraded front end, i would really like some USD forks off like a newer gsxr600 or R6
i like the front end you have on the bike in your signiture, was it worth it?
did you do a write up about it on the forum by chance

For me the R1 was a little rough. It was a very stiff ride. However, I weighed about 150 with gear The newer R6 forks would be a good choice but the prices have been crazy for them lately. The only thing you really have to do is press out the R6 stem, make a spacer for the FZR stem to fit, press those into the R6 lower and then make a spacer up top for the fzr stem to fit the larger diameter top triple hole. Beyond that everything else is plug and play. You just need an entire front end. Lately it's been about 800+ for a total front end unless you shop it in pieces. The wheel and rotors will kill you. I will have one on my xs400 project eventually. I REALLY want a set of Marzocchi forks but don't have 2k for just fork legs and a triple. Someday....

Maybe make the calliper brackets a bit bigger
I guess you have Ducati 320mm disks on, they look like the iron rich ones too, they should stop you pretty quickly huh. I've got a similar thing on my Bimota



I'd guess the original callipers are 100mm bolt spacing so maybe you could use a vertical spacer to move them up the 20mm ?

heh heh, just kidding- i do agree those came with it- i never really thought about a better way
i am having a hard time visualizing the vertical spacer and how it would fit, usually if i think about it long enough i will pull my head outa my ... and come up with something
it might be a new front end alltogether, there is something about the rigiditity and plushness that the modern USD forks offer
