Aprilia rs250 or Honda rs250 fairing on fzr frame

Post by DAP019 »

Hey guys has anyone done this? I am going to modify a aprilia rs250 or hona rs250 race fairing on my fzr frame. i am using usd r6 forks and 3tj swing. i also want to use the early 88-93 honda rs250 tank cover on my frame. i am running a fuel cell anyway and a custom subframe for seat and tail section. Does anyone know the width of the rs250 frame and over length of the rs models? The race kits look sick and i gotta have one. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch.

One of the fellows has a TZ250 fairing, but it took a fair bit of work.

I was wondering how difficult because i want the carbon fiber kit. i know i can make the fiberglass work if needed but i would much rather have the carbon. I can modify the carbon to some extent but not near as much as the fiberglass of course. I know that the frame rails are not as wide as the fzr and i wanted to know also the dimensions on the frame length. I am using the yzf600r engine too and fabing a fairing stay for the upper as well. Thanks for your input you guys are great.

The only seat I've seen that worked was an M1 rep. The problem is the the lines in the seat unit start in the fairing so you'll need to cut and shut it above and below the line. Then you need to look at it from the top as well as the side.

For the amount of work and probable outcome it really isn't worth it.

I am completely fabing a tail section none of that will be an issue. i just know that the tz250 honda rs250 tank is much slimmer than the fzr tank. I am making a seat out of foam and using the honda rs250 race tail. I am just concerned about the width of the frame due to the rs fairings and tank being slimmer. Thanks bro.

It's likely going to take a fair amount of modification to make it work right. Because of that, I would recommend buying a used fiberglass fairing of the model that you like and work out the modifications necessary in fiberglass first before you do it in carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is much more expensive even for just the raw materials and you don't want to waste money buying too much or the wrong thing.

BTW, I'm building an FZR400 racebike with an XR650R motor in it. I ditched the steel subframe then built an upper shock mount with adjustable along with a self-supporting carbon fiber tail for it. I just bought a used '99 TZ250 fairing for it. Fitting the fairing probably won't take as much work as making the tail, But I'm taking plenty of time and effort into making sure that it fits right and works right.

Best of success to you on your project!

Thats what i figured using the fiberglass first. I seen a few on the net using the tz fairing and it looked great and looks straight forward. your build sounds great. I came accross this website last night you may be interested in. ACP Composites. It has alot of carbon stuff. Real cool. You should check it out, for ideas n stuff. D
