Did the carbs yesterday. Found four plugged pilot jets. After a good cleaning it starts and runs perfectly.

I still don't have the bodywork back. A good friend is doing it for free so I'm not complaining about the time frame. It isn't his primary occupation. I'm not even sure he's decided on a paint scheme yet.

Overall I think it was a great buy. At this point my total expenses include an oil pan gasket ($10), a roll of gasket material ($6), starter gears ($15), fuel pump ($6), and new spark plugs ($19).

I went out today and it still fired immediately from a stone cold state so I know things are right.

I got all the oil and water drain plugs wired today. It was a race bike in a former life so it is drilled and wired just about everywhere. I just redid stuff that I've had to undo while working on it.

I'm taking the plunge with another "project" bike myself except that I hope it isn't too much of a project. The current owner says that his '99 R6 just needs a little TLC. Hard to pass up the price he's asking for it though.

I was looking at a non-running XR50 for my son. As I was telling my wife about it she said, "no more project bikes." At that point I had two of my four in pieces. Now that the FZR runs and the XR650R rebuild is complete the project bike ban may be lifted. I haven't been brave enough to ask.

I just added headlights and a taillight to the FZR so that it doesn't scream "arrest me" quite as much...then took a quick blast to the gas station that is about 0.75 miles away to top off the tank. It was my first time getting to wind it out in a couple of gears. It's loud, really loud, but it is also going to be a lot of fun. Starts almost instantly now and runs great.

Wow! I sold this to you and I am very happy to see you have it running. It looks great. Let me know when you go to Mid O I would love to see it run. I finally got my 489 done which was why that bike sat as long as it did. Glad that you seem to be enjoying it.
