FZR stops running after a few minutes

Post by GTV sean »

Good evening gents..

I have a FZR 400 Genesis 1WG which I've had it since June 2011 and used it to school and back everyday and when I started varsity I started using the bike less and less (which is my fault... :duh: ) and one night I took her out and she started stuttering and went fine and eventually cut out :headscratch:

After getting it home I started checking fuse etc and I thought the problem was sorted but sadly not.. It just did the same thing again.. If I can describe what happens it might just give someone an idea?

When it cuts out, I will turn the ignition off and on and the powervalves (YPVS) will activate and the fuel pump will pump and then maybe 15 seconds later this ticking noise - best way i can describe it - will come from the side cover on the left hand side above the back wheel from a small black box ?? Can anyone tell ,e what this could possibly be?
I'm thinking CDI box but I'm no too sure???

Any help will be appreciated !

Regards

That's your main relay assembly; if that's chattering instead of pulling in, it sounds like your battery is flat.

Can it that the battery is flat? Its new.. the bike will ride and then all of a sudden die as if the key has been turned off? the best way I can describe it: when it dies you can turn the motor over and it will just spin but not take?

even if you turn the key on and off it will run for 15 maybe 20 seconds then die again..

Something I recommended to another fellow yesterday - check the connections at your battery. A loose connection there can give this problem.

Sounds like the battery isnt getting charged. If you have a volt meter put it across the battery terminals and it should be 14.5 volts engine running or 13 if it isn't.
If the bike has been standing have a look at the fuel filter, you should be able to blow through it easily any doubt and replace it. If this is partly blocked it will fuel starve then refill and starve again.
