I have a 1988 fzr400 frame with a 600 motor in it and I have found that there's no room for the rad fan. Not an issue if the bike is moving but of course in traffic.... bad. I was thinking of adding a small rear rad above the rear wheel with a fan. is there a wiki on such a mod? is there another way around the fan mount issue? Thanx!

Re: rear rad and fan
So let me get this straight. Do you mean adding an additional radiator or moving it to the tail? I can not say that adding a second rad will be good as it may cause the motor to not warm up to operating temps which can cause problems. Moving it to the tail isn't anything new. I've been seeing that more and more on high end cafe and fighter bikes. Haven't seen any how to's myself so I suggest you get cracking at doing one.

Re: rear rad and fan
A second rad shouldn't cause significant issues, so long as your thermostat is in good condition. One thing though - simply moving the existing rad to the tail will make plug maintenance a lot easier!

Re: rear rad and fan
Hi,
Four suggestions:-
A} add a fan in front of the rad if there is little room at the rear of the Rad
B} look for a slim line fan from the Computer World
C} get abigger curved rad see:- http://www.saltmine.org.uk/kgb/catalogue.html
C} read John Bradley's books (see full details in book section of the WIKI) about aerodynamics for radiator placement as just slapping in another rad is quite technical if it is to work at its best.

Re: rear rad and fan
i was wondering about the computer fan idea actually. I assumed they would have insufficient volume to meet the need but I will have a look at that as it would obviously be the simplest solution. As far as fan placement ANY fan would have to go on the front of the rad which i was concerned about due to air flow disruption but I will definitely have a look,

PP,
If you are not worried about authenticity then your best option, providing you are not spending hours in heavy traffic, is the bigger rads shown on my site Plus they do look "mean"

Do you have a link to that? Had a look at the links in your post but no luck. Feel free to PM if it's not allowed under forum rules. Thank-you for your input!

the pictures are 3rd & 4th on the catalogue page linked in Y-Geo's original post in this thread. I realise that they are not shown mounted on an FZR but both have been done and a search with the picture titles giving the radiator model should pop threads by guys done it / doing it/ or researched it.
Y-Geo had looked at this mod but found that even his style of riding the engine was not likely to over heat here in the UK to the point he had rad screens made to Reduce air flow to keep the engine efficient (pics of the screen are on the same page link as the final pictures.
Re: rear rad and fan
I would not go the Computer fan route, the fan needs to be a sealed bearing type, (dust and rain proof)
I resolved this problem by using the original 400 radiator with an inverted 600 fan mount. I still needed to bring the lower radiator mount out by 10mm.
