Just bought a fzr400

Post by Rich1990 »

Hi, i am new to this forum and have just bought a D reg fzr 400 streetfighter as a little project. I have a few questions which i am unsure about.
It has no clocks and no speedo cable. What other clocks/guages can i use and will i need a fzr400 speedo cable or would a cable from another model fit the 400 speedo drive? Also im guessing the original clocks would be in kph so would i need a matching mph speedo drive?

Also what tail units are easy to fit onto these bikes as the tail is really outdated!

Any help would be great!

Rich.

Rich,
nice to have another Brit in the English Chapter of FZRONLINE welcome to the mad house us in mates rule.
If you do a quick search on Speedo's/Tacho's/clocks then you should come up with R6 / R1 conversions plus Vapour trail clocks and basic fixes.

Ok thanks for that, i have tried searching but ended up with stuff i dont want :) ... Also just found out its not a D reg it was registered in march 1993 so would be a K or L reg. I did wonder if it was a private plate because without the numbers it says DUMB lol

"tacho problem " gave me 51 hits including all the useful stuff on mods & using other brand speedo drives may seem like a lot of reading but 80% is relevant to what you may wish todo.

do you know the model? it's fightered so im guessing the usual thought about where the air tubes are (above or below lights) won't work for the 3en bikes, if it is 93 then it could be a 3tj model, but registered and built dates don't nec. match! got any pics? i may have a speedo cable from a working bike in the shed you can have for post if you need it. also got lots of other bits if the model matches! poss even a set of clocks or at least the best part of a set!

Sorry just got the logbook. Its a 1987 model. If you had any parts that would help then that would be appreciated. Let me know how much you want for them if you have anything!.. Ill try and find the model but the logbook just says yamaha!

put up a pic if you can and we'll sort out what it is! 87 sounds like it could be a genesis model. pre 3en1 possibly.

Im having abit of trouble getting the pictures on. But ive been searching some pictures and im assuming its not a genesis model because the tail is the same as the exup one. And the bloke i bought it off said the exup had been taken off to have the aftermarket can (not sure if this is true).. Will there be any numbers or clues that will tell me which model i have? I am a mechanic so i will understand abit of technical talk! Lol

Ok i see how to put the pics on now but i am online on my phone at the minute so ill have to upload a picture later. The bike definately has the tail unit of an exup. The frame number starts with 1WG? This any clue? There are no fairings, no clocks. Just a tank cover, tail and frame numbers to go from as far as i can see!
