FZR600 600 Fairing on 400?

Post by Murat »

Hi everyone, This is Murat from Green Bay, WI. I just bought an 90 FZR400. The head light fairing and wind screen have some cracks on them and Yamaha discontinued the parts. I need to know if I can use an FZR600 headlight fairing with my FZR400 mid and lower fairings. I do now that Airtech still makes FZR400 fairings, but I want OEM plastic and not some fiberglass replica.

Nope.... have to use the FZR400 headlight fairing. Keep an eye open on eBay.

What about using all the lower and front FZR600 fairings. Will that bolt up as a set?

No, but it is apparently close. You will need the 600 birdcage (frame for the upper).

Check out this thread:: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=53&start=15

He made some brackets to make the 600 fairings fit on his 400.

Speak of the devil.... Damn glad to see you're still alive, Brian! I haven't ridden my bike either. Too hot here in St. Louis lately, but I doubt that's your excuse - you probably have nice weather.

We got a bad heat wave going through Green Bay as well. Hopefully by the time it ends my bike will be in riding condition.

Hey bweight, how good does your bike perform with that 600 motor swap?

yeah I'm still alive.. Don't have much time for anything lately... Between work, the kids, the fire department I'm lucky to have enough time to sleep... I think I've ridden 5 times this summer total. Its depressing. Every time I clean the garage to get the bike out, something comes up then my wife messes up the garage again.

murat - the bike runs fine. Its actually a 600 with .5 over pistons... There's plenty of power,but there is still a small puddle of oil showing up under the bike... I think its coming from the oil pressure gauge I installed last year, but I haven't looked too much into it. I think next year I'm gonna bring it in for a valve adjustment and see how she runs afterwards because its also still puffing a little smoke when I hit the throttle. New rings,jugs in spec, I can't think of anything else....

Well, now I'm going to have to swap a 600 as soon as I find a cheap donor bike. 2 weeks ago I made a mistake of buying an FZR1000 exup for my commuter bike and now my 400, which used to feel fairly fast, now feels like its lacking a bit in the acceleration department. Although the 400 is still slightly more fun to ride.

the 400 is actually a riot to ride... Its light as hell and just plain fun. Sure its no 600 or a 1k, however there's nothing like winding Up to14k and just hearing that scream....

The one thing better is winding your 250 up to 18500, and watching heads turn looking for the Indy car .... :grinnod:
