FZR 400 PURCHASE
Thinking of buy a 90 fzr 400, looks pretty cool, dont want to race it, i just want a decent street bike that i can fix up. My question is how does this bike run, speed, low end power, valve problems , etc, is it a ok street bike ?, i hear it handles really well, chime in guys.
Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE
FZR400 are still used for the basis of race bikes, low on power errr it is a400 not a1K but will still hoist the front wheel skyward if you are not careful..Fzrmike33 wrote:Thinking of buy a 90 fzr 400, looks pretty cool, dont want to race it, i just want a decent street bike that i can fix up. The problem will be to find one that has not been raced &/or thrashed as long distance bike for some one in the 6ft height region it is cramped but short commutes 40 miles or so no problem and in the twistied will see of just about anything if in the right hands

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE
It's not that this place is dead, but you're talking about a bike that is 20 years old. It's also very rare to own a FZR400, especially if you're in the states. There weren't that many to begin with and the majority of them have been disassembled and sold to people who used them for racing.Fzrmike33 wrote:Gee nobody has a opinion ???? this place is kinda dead.
If you put your location (State or Province) in your profile, then we would be able to better help you since the FZR400 was more prevalent in certain countries.

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE
Thanks guys, im in California. I dont plan on keeping the 400 motor, i want to stick a Yamaha RZ350 motor in it. Im kinda wondering about the size of the bike, seems smaller than a RZ 350, trying to find the wheel base information on FZR 400. Im 6' tall, so concerned it maybe to small of a bike.

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE
I think your bigger issue is living in California and wanting to ride a 2-stroke on the road.Fzrmike33 wrote:Thanks guys, im in California. The FZR400 is a small bike, but you'll fit. You look like Leon Camier on his Aprilia RSV...

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE
Bikes aren't inspected here in cali so him putting in the 2 stroke motor won't matter.

They go through all that work to put California Emissions (CARB) equipment on bikes and they don't even look to check if it is still there?sweekster wrote:Bikes aren't inspected here in cali so him putting in the 2 stroke motor won't matter.
I thought they would have stringent inspections.

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE
I can drop a 350 2 smoker in it no problem . I only concerend about the size, looking at the specs on the 400 and 600 theres not much difference at all between them, and the 400 is very close in specs to the RZ350.

what would be the problem in cali if he did get inspected? :/Bikes aren't inspected here in cali so him putting in the 2 stroke motor won't matter.

How many 2 strokes do you see on the road? They're loud and some smoke like crazy... so your eco-neighbor doesn't like them.tickledawson wrote:what would be the problem in cali if he did get inspected?

Re: FZR 400 PURCHASE
There are a couple of FZR 400's that will see a transfusion of the Two Stroke power. TOO much fun. I've ridden one-and am doing one, time is the major problem. The FZR platform handles like - womderful. Add the two stroke power and it is the best grin maker you can imagine !!!
