Fuel - MPG/ Air intake

Hey guys,

I'm new the the forums and new to FZRs. I own a 1993 FZR400RR, and since buying it there have been a few issues with the bike but I love it. But I can get a proper reading on what miles per gallon(MPG) I should be getting out of my bike? Can anyone help with that?

Also as I am new to the FZR family, after doing some work on my bike at home I noticed the air intake stops under the fuel tank. So it doesn't have an air intake from the front of the bike. Is that right?

Hey guys,

with out pics of that model to hand I would say you have "frame cooler" intakes on the front fairing only. The big bike (1k) guys some times lift the front of the tank to ease their breathing but it should never go that far for a 400.

If you take the tank/airbox false "tank" off you will see the airbox intake is to the rear facing the real gas tank.
This is to allegedly keep the box air cool and be "a still air" of a specific volume. So do not go drilling holes in the air box to help it breathe.

I have no doubt you will hear ( NOT HERE ) that individual pods or dual pods are the way to make her breathe.

What you will not hear is that tuning the carbs to suit this arrangement is a pigs ear UNLESS you know "the trick" to the pod installation.

AS to MPG ok how do you ride ? Where do you ride ? your MPG is what ever you make it .

My 600 to me is awful at about 100 miles to fill up time where as my 400RD is a smaller tank and 50% more miles between fill ups

As I just posted in another thread asking about mpg, I'm getting 50-55mpg (200 miles till reserve) no matter how I ride.
Though I don't ride in the city/traffic at all, I do ride from flat rural VA roads to twisty mountain roads in WV without any real noticeable change in mpg. (all stock FZR600)

That is all great advice and all seems to be well with the mechanics of the bike. Air intake is just as you describe george thanks.

But unfortunatley so little mother f****r kicked my bike over while it was parked up, and it has cracked the front fairing and the wing mirror and the screen. Bent the support arm for the fairing on the front too. So I am not best chuffed!

sorry to hear that look up PLASTEX in google 'bout 25 quid for the kit and it will repair any original plastics . Look on my site the fzr section and it shows what it can do
