Compatibilty

Post by lazaah »

hey guys just wondering if anyone can provide some light as to wether a 89 engine with fit into a 92 frame? Rather urgent as i dont want to miss out on a great deal if it is an easy swap.

To clear up the senario, i have a 92 with a blown bottom end bearing. Looking at purchasing a 89 racebike for a steal, just need to know if the engine will swap over.

Cheers heaps people,

Zane

Well let's get some details. First, where are you? UK? USA? Austrailia? And are you speaking of the FZR400 or FZR600? Or combining the two?

ha sorry getting a bit ahead of myself!

Im in new zealand, I assume both the bikes in question were japland imports. The bike that is mine with run bearings is a 92 3tj, would like to take the engine from a 1wg and get it going again. Hope this helps!

I want to say it might be possible but I'm not for sure. It would seem like it's just a matter of adapting the 1wg to 3tj frame. You could, however, swap in a thundercat motor.

i could but it would require fabrication, and when someone has a neat bike and a buket load of spares to sell you for dirty cheap, thts my only real option

The motors mount differently- that's for sure.

Here's an 89 1wg. You see it has lower frame rails and mounts on the bottom as well as up top.

Here is a 3tj like yours...no bottom rails

I'm not sure a if that will work without a bit of modding

however apparently it will work however the 3tj head must be used for that top engine mount. Anyone contest?
