Titanium valve spring retainers make a comeback

Post by Brock@BDK »

Hello there folks,

Just to let those of you that are interested know that the titanium valve spring retainers we once made for these are back in production (and stock) due to the return in demand.

We've managed some cost savings for these now and have discovered that the premature wear which had been an issue was being caused by the sharp edge at the top of the valve springs. Whilst this does mean that you need to take some time to make sure that the edges are radiused on assembly this does mean we have been able to do away with the nitriding process which made the retainers so expensive first time around.

The retainers weigh only 40% of the originals and this helps to keep the valvetrain from tying itself in knots and the pistons becoming intimate with the valves at high rpm - always a good thing.

They increase the valve spring preload by 0.7mm as well but should still be checked for wear at least once per season.

These are race items only so please be aware they are not intended to wear long enough to be useful as a road product.

If you need them you can get them here:

What sort of redline increase can be achieved? Or is this more a matter of being able to sustain the nominal redline for a longer stretch?
