1-piece bar end?

Post by architect »

For my '88, it appears that the right bar and end are one piece, meaning I have to remove the bar from the triple tree clamp in order to free the throttle assembly. This is no the case for left side.

Is it possible to use another left bar for the right side? That way I can also install some custom own bar ends? Is that bar interchangeable with the 600 88-90 bar? Or maybe even a bar from '90 and later FZRs?

Looking to basically get a cheap bar to fulfill this possibility.

Thanks!

At least the 3BF / 3FH Series has got these 1-Piece-Bars-and-Bar-Ends in all Models, the 1988, the 1989 and the 1990. I don´t know if this affects the 1WG Series (1WG, 2TK, 3EN1, 3EN2) also, but if, then i guess the only way will be to get a completly different bar set for having removable+exchangable bar ends as the other FZRs use different mounting-clamps and the left bar of a 3BF mounted in a right-side clamp of a 3BF would result in an unusable angle of the bar even if it would fit anyhow.

I think the 600 clip-ons are one piece but with separate bar ends - they should work because the use 38mm forks. The only time I renewed the bar end with aftermarket they were those expanding types either metal or rubber .... they fell out.
I use aftermarket screw in turned aluminium type and they're fine. They come in the original round end and the later Thundercat type, I use the later ones. When I put a radial master on I found it pushed the switches and throttle further up the bar and the grip fouled on the bar end. I used a plastic sump washer from a ford car to pack the bar end out a few millimetres

Both of the bars on my 89 are one piece design. Someone must have switched the left one on yours to the two piece.
If you have access to a friend with a lathe you can machine the ends off and thread them for the trick aftermarket ends of your choice : )

For the 88 the left and right bar are different price and different code. You can even see how in the diagram how the left bar is 2 piece.

If your 400 is a 3BF,then someone would have switched the left of yours to a one-piece-solution ;) But then i wonder why in my tries to put a left one to the right side results in a different Angle than it should have with original bars and original clamps from another 3BF (i´ve got 2 and a half here ;)... at least until my brother one day finishes his motorcycle-driverlicence and gets his away from here )..??

I was told you can't use the left on right or vice versa. The diameters are slightly different and the switches would not sit exactly right either.

I'd have though both bars are 22mm - such is standardisation in Japan

Just to confirm, the design is the same on the 1WG bars:
Right bar end is fixed, Left bar end can be unscrewed.

I cant see any reason why you couldn't use two left bars but I don't see why you would want to?
