FZR600R tickover/ over rev when hot

can anyone tell me whats happening to my tickover? : when the bike is hot (been running for a few mins) when i shut the throttle i get high revs about 2k for a couple of secs before it drops to 900rpm haven got the first idea where to start with this one many thanks

I would look for any air leaks, split inlets etc. 900rpm is too low as well, idle should be 1200/1300rpm.

Get this sorted before you go back out on the bike - a bike that won't rev down will quite cheerfully pull you into cross-traffic!

Hi John no I haven't fixed it yet but I have found out what it is and I have got to remove the carbs and strip them down to fix it so it's a job for end of season as it's only over revving for a second or so and only 400ish rpm high it will be fine til oct.

Basically the carbs and linkages are gummed up and need stripping down, cleaning and relubricating nothing serious just a bit of a 'take your time' job
