1995 FZR 600r (UK) fuel pump

In the states, this was the upgrade to the FZR600. In other places, this is called an FZR. Either way, many of the components of the US YZF600r fit onto the US FZR600.

1995 FZR 600r (UK) fuel pump

Post by baggers »

I just bought a 1995 FZR 600r Foxeye of a mate. I suspect the fuel pump may be knackered as there was no fuel getting to the carbs until I filled the tank right up, and then I got it started albeit it would only run on full choke and very roughly. I have removed the pump (there was a leak from it in any case) and have done what i think is the right thing to test it, connected the unit up directly to the battery (neutral to black and power to the blue lead) and am getting nothing. I followed the guidelines from a Haynes manual that covers the Yamaha fours, but not quite this bike unfortunately. It seems that the later FZR 750s are similar in many respects. The bike has been stood for some time with an empty tank. Firstly I would like to ask am I testing it correctly and secondly is there any way of repairing this unit if it is faulty? Cheers

That fuel pump was used on the 95/96 FZR600R (our 1st gen YZF600) and the YZF750. You are connecting the wires correctly, but the I can not be certain if connecting it a battery with no fluids covering it will verify if it is good as I've never tried to do it that way. These particular fuel pumps are notorious for being bad. I've tried to find a place that can work on them or replace the pump portion but have not been successful with that yet. Your best bet is to find a replacement pump as they are much more common in the UK that here in the US. If that fails, you could probably get and external fuel pump and sender unit from the Thundercat and have them mounted to work. I know that if the pump in my 750 goes out, that is what I will be doing.

Good luck.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.
