ignition coils
hey, does any one know if i can use a coil for 1 and 4, and use it for 2 and 3?thanx
Re: ignition coils
As Zero noted - throwing the same question all over the board is not appreciated. If your bike is a YZF600R, then post it here.
To answer your question - yes, a coil labeled as being for 1-4 can be used on 2-3. The coils are functionally identical, and are actually closer on the YZF600s than they were on the FZRs, which had significantly different HT lead lengths between the 1-4 and 2-3 units. Just make sure the signal wires from the TCI are run to the appropriate coils.

Re: ignition coils
ok, sorry for posting more than once and thanks for pointing me in the right direction.from what i read, changing the coil will help a cold cylinder problem, as both 2 and 3 are running cold.i do have a spare coil for 1 and 4,but 2 and 3 are the cold cyls. thanks for the info, greatly appreciated as i am new here and this is my first bike in 20 years.i will let you know how i make out with it. thanks again

Re: ignition coils
ok so i swapped the coil for 2 and 3. 1 and 4 were ok.after the swap now #4 is cold as is #2? any suggestions?can 1 side of each coil be bad? just to let you know i have brand new plugs in the bike as well.
Re: ignition coils
Make sure your plug caps are firmly screwed into the HT leads. If they pull off easily, check the inside of the lead - if the copper looks chewed or corroded, trim it back 1/4 - 1/2", then re-thread the cap back on. Try again, see how it goes.

Re: ignition coils
thanks again. so i tried #4 its the easiest. i pulled the boot off of the lead, wires looked clean, screwed it back on,tried firing it up and its still cold. this thing is drivin me nuts
Re: ignition coils
Ensure the #4 circuit is in good shape, then prop the plug such that it's grounding on the engine or frame. Crank it over and look for spark.
Check for wet plugs as well. Possible scenario - #2 was cold because it was wet, and #3 was cold because of a bad coil lead. You have swapped your 1-4 and 2-3 coils, with #3 lead now on #4. #2 is still cold because the plug is wet; #4 now has a bad wire. Check everything ...

Re: ignition coils
i am on it. so if a plug is wet it will run cold on that cylinder?
Re: ignition coils
i pulled #4 plug, it was dry and there is no spark.
