I'm going to keep this brief, since the only internet I have at my apartment is on my phone, and it takes much longer to type than my laptop. Lol

Anywho, it's an '88 fzr 750 that I picked up for the equivilent of 300 bucks about 6 months ago. In short, it was pretty f*ck up. For example, there was no rear brake. Just the stay that'd been broken off to act as a spacer. There were also sticks electrical taped around the throttle cables for god knows what reason.

It had also been painted black from front to back in an effort to 'fighter' it.

If the previous-previous owner is a member here, I'm sorry but you're a dumb f*ck. No two ways about it.

Hence the reason for the name fail fighter.

Moving on, we'll be using the tank, front end, rear sets and rear end from a '93 zx7 that I picked up for next to nothing.

The tail is from an '08 r6 and is a solo race tail.

The shock is off an '05 z1000, and is NOT a bolt in affair, in case you were wondering.



Here's what she looked like when we started. Unfortunately I don't have many photos uploaded at the moment, but I'll fix that soon enough.

and a shot with the front end mounted/subframe started. The subframe's made out of .069 wall .75in tubing, if anybody cares.



And here's how she sits at the moment. The exhaust will be shortened to just behind the rearset, radiator is being relocated to the tail, and the zx7 rearsets will be adapted in place of the stock ones.

As it sits, it feels a TON lighter after ditching the bars, front end garbage, stock subframe, seat, etc. I hope it doesn't get much heavier as I reinstall the radiator and such.

I'll be updating THIS thread, but I spend a bit more time over there, and, given my internet situation, it's hard to update two threads. Lol.

Some information on the various parts we used:

The tank is a CLOSE fit to the frame, but, obviously, the mounts are different, so, if you plan on using said tank, you're going to have to weld up some bracketry. The airbox fits IF it's reversed (taken off, turned 180 degrees, and reinstalled), but I haven't tried to start the bike like this, yet. If it doesn't work, I'll use pods.

The tank also has two fuel fittings on it, which nice.

The zx7 petcock is a nice unit, as well, and is a separate unit from the tank, so it could be used in a custom application.

The tail isn't even close to fitting, but, luckily, it's a bolt on subframe, so it's not a big deal to make a new one.

And that brings us to the front end. It doesn't fit. At all. The bearings are the same I.D. but the stem is stepped and the step contacts the top bearing. I ended up making a new stem for it.

ALSO, if you do get it to fit, the fork tubes will contact the radiator, hence my locating a smaller one in the tail, instead. The advantage of this is that I can get to the sparkplugs incredibly easily, now.

The zx7 gauges are set up as separate gauges (not one unit, as the fzr and my ex500 are), so I plan to run the idiot light unit (which is a pretty nice piece, if you're looking to do a custom setup) and the speedometer. I won't be using a tach because, well, the exhaust has been cut down and really has no baffle, so I'll be able to hear when to shift without any troubles.

The zx7 also uses a hydraulic clutch setup, so it has a clutch master, as well as a brake master, with the little cups, instead of the goofy box things that you can never tell the fluid level on. Always a plus.

I may or may not retrofit the swingarm/rear brake/wheel from the zx7 to the fzr, but, being as that it's an offset-shock design, I won't even get into how difficult that's going to be.

I'm still debating where to stuff a battery, but it's more than likely going to go into the tail fairing somewhere. same with most of the electronics, with the exception of the reg/rectifier unit, which will be wherever I can get the most airflow to it.

I hope this info will help someone if they decide to do the streetfighter thing with theirs.
