Delvryboy's fighter build

This is going to be a 2-3 season project. End goals are Koso gauges, YZF tank swap, R6 full tail/subframe swap, YZF swinger, and possibly a YZF motor if I come across one.

I'll probably strip everything down at the end of this season and start the powder coating, I'm not sure what color scheme I'm going with, but it's NOT going to be all blacked out.

More than likely, I'll cut down the factory tail this season. I still need to figure out my front signals, currently I left the 2 front side fairing stays(the ones that use the rad bolts) in place and mounted my signals there. Anyhow, on to the pics I have so far....sorry about the cell pics, the wife has her camera with her in Texas.

Starting with:

Seca II top and Renthal bars

I used a spacer made of steel pipe to raise the triple a little higher ( big thanks to Kyle844 ) so the bars would clear the fork caps. However, I did have to raise the front end about a 1/4" because I wanted to make sure I had a decent amount of thread for the stem nut The rear was already raised, so it should handle fine.
Image

Also, the threads for the ignition cylinder were bigger. I got lucky because I had some extra rotor bolts laying around which used the same thread, I just had to drill out the mounting plate.

Falcon HL. I probably won't keep it because I want a single projector, but it was local, dirt cheap($30), and uses 55w bulbs.

I'm using the factory gauges for now, but I have them mounted very good. I'm actually quite impressed with how they flow right into the build, I really thought they would be my biggest headache today.

As for mirrors, I don't really want bar ends, well...... because I lane split a ton and I already gained a good 4" end to end on the bars. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do with mirrors, so i picked up a cheap set off DK and and using some of these threaded clamps. I'll get some pics of the mirrors tomorrow.

While the fighter/stunt look has started to grow on me, the main reason I am going this route is due to comfort. I have 2 herniated discs in my neck, just had a surgery in November, and will probably have another next year. I'm in some amount of pain 24/7 and riding has become un-enjoyable. This gets me in a more upright position and relieves a ton of stress off my neck. I'm not willing to give up the sport bike for a standard or cruiser, so I'm just modding it to fit my needs.

Oh, I had my old fubar'd mirror stay laying around, so I just cut the mounting plate off and used it for my tank cover mount.

Not having to take plastics off to work on the bike = WIN. :)

You have places to mount the mirrors already. The little rubber caps that are plugging holes in the lever mounts can be removed and the mirrors will screw in there.

Looking good so far though.

And shame on you. Lane splitting in Chicago is illegal.

Ah, thanks, that's good to know. Do they need to be tapped?

Already threaded.

Are they both standard R/H thread, or that goofy reverse thread that Yamaha likes to use?

Anyhow, the mirrors I got from DK are horrible and killed the looks of the bike. I had to use those mounts I had temp. because had I used the lever mounts, I would have been embarrassed to ride it. I dunno, i guess I'll just grab some bar ends and call it a day.

A question for anyone using this top.... should there be a gap when tightening the riser clamps? I do have them in the correct direction.

Yup. Risers are drilled to 7/8" and then cut. Doing it this way allows for the gap so that you can correctly tighten the clamps down. If they met you might not be able to create enough clamping force to keep the bars from spinning on you.

Looks good!! I love it, I have a cut down rear tail section, bought ebay rear fairings and didnt realize til they came they had been cut, take a look and compare! Not cut down alot but make the rear flow alot better and looks good while covors up the electronics and VR. I dig the front assembly. The bar ends i went with only give about 4-6" total extra length and they work pretty well.

First ride, to work. What a blast to ride, felt like a toy and really handled well. Plus, this is my first time not riding dirty, so it may have been a little more spirited. .....

Probably after the weekend; I'll be out of town til late Monday and I have an outpatient procedure Tuesday morning. I have the mirrors on the way and some new throttle cables. Broke one yesterday and grabbed another from TK just to get on the road.

I think I'm going to take 1" off each bar end also.

BTW, I noticed the arrows on your upper are facing inwards. I found the proper procedure: Arrows face forward and the torque spec is 17 ft. lbs. Torque the front 2 down while the rear 2 are loose, then torque the rears.

Oh sweet thanks! I figured the clamps were the same either way so just threw them on but i'll have to change them around and torque them down, good research!! I can't cut my bars down til i get some SS brake lines and have more play with the front brake, I'm maxed out as far as room goes!!
