thatkid, so what is this spool mount solution you speak of? i've looked at how you and yamaha george have mounted spools, and i kinda planned on doing that at some point. but if you've got another solution, i would definitely be interested. once i get my transmission fixed and start putting stuff together again, i'll be snagging some dogbones from you as well
I don't want to spoil the surprise until I have a picture but I will tell you it's entirely bolt on. No welding, cutting, drilling, etc. I've got the design and measurements I just need to get them over to my machinist. I'm hoping to have this done soon. Time is not on my side lately.

Measurement pics added to first page.

Should easily fit under stock plastics. It's shorter at all points. The only issue will be the shorter length at the end, but like I said before that can easily be fixed for a couple bucks at an auto parts store. You may even be able to run it without doing anything.

TK,
Thanks for the altered pictures ClapHands

My old eyes did not deceive me that the R6 header is way tidier and looks to be easier for the oil filter to be "got at" for servicing

Sounds that although time practical wise has been short you have had your "thinking cap " on I for one will be waiting on your spools idea !!

this is a great mod, but what are the runner diameters in millimeters? stock FZR is 34mm i think. and what's the outlet diameter? thanks for posting this thread though man, if i can get a header i'm definitely doing this mod.

Not sure what you mean by the runner diameters... The actual tube? Stock FZR is 32mm for the tube and the R6 is 35mm. The outlet for the R6 is 44.5mm outside diam and 41.23mm inside or 1.75" and 1.62" respectively.

I have an R6 can (96? 98?) on my stock fzr 1000. Almost fits perfect. Figured some may like to see what it looks like.

Yup, i understand that. Just showing what it may look like with the full exhaust if the R6 header exits close to the stock header.

Well I have GOOD NEWS ! I just got the R6 header via UPS a few hours ago. I left my digital camera in the tail-end of the FZR (of all places!) so tomorrow night I'll take some photos and post up.

I now see why TK suggested possibly NOT painting high-temp black. So I returned the black paint and primer and exchanged for CLEAR high temp.

This thing is AWESOME. The pictures just don't do it justice. It looks like a cross between gold, steel and titanium. The 4-2-1 design looks pretty sweet too. My guess is whoever had this ran it a couple hundred miles and replaced it with a full aftermarket exhaust, there's hardly any carbon residue inside. I got some high temp silicone and am waiting on the FMF pipe, exh gaskets and throttle cables. All that should be here within a couple weeks. Thing is, I might be able to install it even earlier, as I believe the header has the R6 gaskets already on the ends of the pipes! I guess we'll see if it fits, I can't see why it wouldn't. But anyway, this thing is pretty much flawless, and the welds look superb.
:notworthy:
Thanks TK, I'll keep at least some pictures coming in. I'll ask around at work and see if anyone has a video camera I can borrow one weekend. I'd like to post up the before and after, I get a feeling it's going to sound REALLY good.
