better description required. please convert to MPH for us lazy Americans. Also what gears? Also what RPM's ? Also what mileage on bike... as in ... ODOMETER reading ? Also, when were carburetors cleaned last time ? Also how old are spark plugs ? Also how old is gas in tank ?

what is your bike? say more details. cause if it's fzr, they have an exup valve. If this valve cannot open, you'll have this problem. I have it once on both my 400 fzrs. First one fzr had cut exup valve cable, and the 2nd time had wrong adjustment.

Hi,
EXUP valve is on the exhaust pipe right underneath the bike,. being a 250 does not say much how many miles has the engine done, are the plugs new / cleaned / do not know.

If you just bought the bike did you put fresh Gas on top of old Gas ? drained old gas ? run seafoam thro the carbs /engine ?

If you changed the battery & it has died already , what voltage regulator do you have (look it up on this site ) i it giving 13.6 volts or more / less ?

You have to learn to give more detail you are our eyes so we can make intelligent diagnosis for you .

I told you about the exup cables. But have checked all these George told you uprights? If not, go and check them. George has too much experience on motorcycles. Since he's the oldest of us all, it's logical :whistle (sorry for the "oldest" George)

Quick check to see if it's the EXUP (it probably is):

1. pull the left fairing
2. remove the EXUP cover (three little bolts holding on a piece of stamped sheet metal)
3. disconnect the 2 cable; mark which one was top and bottom
4. rotate the valve pulley CLOCKWISE as far as it will go, and wire it in place (safety wire, coat hangar, whatever)
5. test ride

You'll probably find you've lost a LOT of power on the bottom; you may have to feather the clutch to get off the stoplight a lot more than you're used to. You should however find a much different engine from about 9k on up...

Sure - fix yer EXUP! :duh: :-D

Glad you found the solution; now figure out why it's not working right. You mentioned a damaged cable - is it the sheath, or the wire inside? Were the cables connected properly? Adjusted properly? Does the servo work at all? Does it go through it's cleaning cycle (zzzt-zzzt sound when you turn on the key)?

Have fun!

Once you've installed the new cable(s), turn the ignition on and let the servo cycle. There's a fork on the pulley and a hole in the housing; adjust the cables until the fork and hole line up (a 4mm allen key may help keep things aligned while you tighten the cables). The valve has a limited range of motion, <90 degrees; if it doesn't seem to be moving well, you may have the cables backwards. First part of the cycle is open (clockwise), then back to closed. Cycle the servo once or twice to make sure everything's lined up, then put it all back together - enjoy!
