Hi,
My little FZR is losing water from a small hole on the bottom of the water impellor. I took the cover off and was able to push the impellor back about 3 or 4 mm.
Is this some sort of safety mechanism and if so, what causes it?
I noticed some grey gunk on the radiator cap and in the fill pipe, but the oil is fine, so I tried flushing the engine block and radiator using the garden hose and put it all back together.
The leak has stopped, but want to know what causes the impellor to move and allow water past and out the drain hole.
Could it be a leaking head gasket and at higher revs the cooling system is getting pressurised and causing the impellor to somehow move?
Thanks
Dave

If there anything like a car water pumps. When the berings start to go bad, water will leak out of the weep hole indacating you need a new water pump.it dose this so you know it's going bad insted of it just crapping out without you knowing it causing catastrophic failure to the rest of the engine...I would replace it asap

Re: Leaking water pump :(
Just an update, didn't get the water pump from ebay, he thought I meant the thermostat housing...
Anyhoo, took the water pump off to see if it could be repaired and a little circlip fell out
Got the pliers out, pushed the impeller fully home and replaced the circlip...seems to be holding so far

Glad that got sorted as I have not seen much 250FZR stuff on E-bay here in the UK.
My buddy from lancashire drives Falkirk way in his truck making deliveries and he says you have some great biking roads up there,
I told him unless he can turn off his truck freezer and put my bike & his in the back it is too far to make on a sunday LoL
