The Next Mile - Summer-Long, Nation-Wide Ride

Post by WSM »

I am leaving Memorial Day Weekend for a summer-long ride that will take me in a large loop around the western half of the country, west of Ohio at least.

I'm camping out every night, and generally making my own way day-by-day, but here is a rough route plan: (minus the interstates)
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&m ... 99013ff41d

Anyone know any must-sees?
Know where to find some serious road food?
I've been known to drive four hours for the best pie in the midwest, so I'm up for an adventure.

Oh, and of course, I'm looking for some good roads!
Know any?

And I'd love to meet up with anyone from the forum, so let me know if you'd like to join me for a couple miles!

Central Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and southern Minnesota?

YAAAAWWNNN...

Make that loop over the top of Lake Michigan and I'll lead you on some seriously good stuff, put you up for a night, home cooking....

DEAL!
It'll probably be sometime in August before I'm in your neck of the woods, but I've seen The UP/Upper MI and there is some beautiful land up there... at least in the summer when the land isn't under a couple feet of snow!

You should check out 210 going through Jay Cook State Park south of Duluth. I've never ridden it personally, but it's supposed to be a great road. Too bad you're not coming a bit further south or I'd join in for a while.

Last week I had my bike parked in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and when I came back to it I noticed a little piece of paper sticking out of the seat...
Shit I thought, I got a ticket!
Nope, it was a friendly note from none-other than our very own Olie05!
Not only did he recognize my bike from FZROnline, he remembered my name!

I'm in Austin now, not far from him down in Houston, so we're discussing getting together next week to ride some of the local roads he knows.

Just thought I'd let y'all know how small our FZR world is!

FZR World is small, if you guys use the location in the profile, I have met now 6-8 folk in the english Chapter of FZROnline & it is real blast meeting some one for the first time face to face and yet being able to talk immediately as you have so much in common already.

Enjoy your summer ride I hope you get to meet as many as you can.

I've been updating it all weekend, so make sure ya got the right one:

As for Vegas... I trying to skip some of the hot&sweaty cities unless I have a couch to crash on. Like San Diego & LA, I don't plan to get into those traffic nightmares. But if I have a place to park for a couple days and get a chance to explore without hauling around all my gear, then maybe.
