fuses keep goin ;(
ok so i find my self replacing the neutral light fuse about every 2- 3 days and the other day the main fuse went the battery keeps getting drained and when i tried to replace the main fuse the bike and everything was off but when i tried to put the main fuse it it shot out a spark at me can anyone give me a list of the possible problems i hate eletrical problems realy piss me off
Re: fuses keep goin ;(
you deffinatly have a good short there id start with a wiring diagram to see whats live with the key off and check those connections first if its blowing quickly you should be able to find the problem look for melted wires and connectors and you can sometimes smell burnt electronics. id check the key switch and vr first . un plug them and try to change the fuse then and see if it blows

The vr is behind the left fairing. I sell hvacr equipment. We're 2 peas in a pod.

Re: fuses keep goin ;(
Yeah I really ment to put left rear fairing. Anyway is the gooey stuff really tacky? Like it's melting? It should be gooey a little bit but not like duct adhesive. I didn't find anywhere what year bike you have so I'm assuming you have a 95+ or the upgraded r6 vr. The one with the fins and about the size of a square of cheese, and not the small candy bar sized one. Yes you have all the fused located. Do a search in the WIKI for a flow chart and follow that from the start to finish. It could be your stator, vr, or a grounded wire. That is a good place to start.

alright i give up eletrical problems really piss me off anyone in the boston mass area that wants to fix the short and ill pay them for the fix i wanna get riding soon pm me or something
Re: fuses keep goin ;(
i was told when taking computer repair classes if your having a hardware problem unplug everything and put one peice in at a time till you get the problem back and you found the issue so i would say the easist way for you to figure out what your problem is is to unplug most of your suspected problems and plug them back in till you blow the fuse again and that is most likely your problem . i wouldent unplug the tci though without unhooking the battery first. i kept blowing a fuse for my lights in my rodeo so i unhooked them all and one at a time plugged them back in till i found the problem it was a corroded bulb socket in a running light

Re: fuses keep goin ;(
ok so i have came up with the assumption that its a bad starter because the wires are really hot around there and i think thats its 2 high of a load but would that be the reason for the bike to shoot sparks when im trying to put in a new fuse
Re: fuses keep goin ;(
the starter shouldent be drawing anything with the key off and not using the start button because there is a starter relay in between the battery and the starter unless the relay is shorting out id check that if your starter wires are getting hot

Re: fuses keep goin ;(
where is the relay located and if i replaced the main fuse with a higher fuse will that make a diffeence what is the stock fuse that is souppose to be in there
Re: fuses keep goin ;(
with the key off it shouldent blow any size fuse for it shouldent have a draw, the stock fuse is 30 amp i think and if your blowing that a bigger fuse isnt going to help you. looking at the wireing diagram if your key is off then im thinking the only real possibilitys are the key switch the voltage regulator. the starter relay or starter might have a problem giving you a hot wire but i dont think it is fused looking at the wiring diagram
im gonna say its you voltage regulator unhook it and see if your still blowing the fuse what have you tried to do so far cause by your postings you havent said you tried anything. ther starter relay is in line with the battery and the starter should be a little box but try unhooking the vr first

Composed just before haro's last post, I haven't removed the similarities.
The battery positive (Red wire) connects directly to the starter relay, it has a Blue/white wire connected also. It sits directly behind the battery (left hand side). The starter relay when engaged (start button pressed) connects the battery direct to the starter via the starter relay.
Since the starter relay, and starter are connected battery side of the main fuse, they are both un fused, or not fuse protected, so that is not the cause of the main fuse blowing. The Blue/White wire is fuse protected, but it is connected to the 10 amp Ignition fuse.
The main fuse should be Green 30 amp, do not replace it with anything higher. Infact never replace any fuse with one of a higher rating, that's how electrical fires start.
Have you disconnected the VR? as haro advised in his first post? you make no mention of the results. if that stops the main fuse blowing the VR is fried. if not, VR disconnected, Ignition switched off, main fuse removed. Connect a multi meter set @ ohms to the Red connector on the VR plug, connect the other side of the multimeter to ground. You should get a infinite ohm reading, if you get a reading of 0 ohms (or any reading other than infinite), you have a short between the main fuse and the ignition switch (Red wire), or faulty Ignition switch.
You also mentioned "the battery keeps getting drained" was this before or after the main fuse blew?
if it was before its a sign of a failing VR, or dry/faulty battery. A dry/faulty battery can damage the VR, a faulty VR can blow the main fuse.
"the neutral light fuse" The signal fuse (Brown wire) feeds Oil light, Neutral light, Temp gauge, Tach, Front and Rear brake switch's, Horn, and Turn signal relay, you could have a short on any of those circuits. Id check the brake lights, horn and turn signals first.
The wiring diagram will help you out, click the diagram twice to expand http://www.fzronline.com/wiki/lib/exe/d ... iagram.gif
