ok so on my big old fizzer I went for a ride the other day.... I reached my destination, and turned the key switch off, and she didnt turn off, she wont unless I take the seat off and disconnect the negative battery term . LOL

Should I investigate anything else before I buy the new switch?
Can you replace part of the ignition /key switch so I don't have to get new keys and a new tank/seat key?
Can i find any other model years to fit it?

it connects with three wires, all of those connections are good and I have never had an issue with the key.
All other switches seem to function normal. Right handle bar on/off and all..

thanks guys

of those three wires 2 larger ones complete the ingnition circuit and the smaller one (when connected with the other 2) completes the lights section. I would guess you have rubbed or melted through somewhere back in the harness and the wires are touching one another. I would remove the ignition switch and see if it still does it. If it doesnt then your problem lies in the switch, but if it does your problem lies back in the harness

yup it was in the connector that goes from those wires to the start solenoid switch, learned a good lesson in hotwiring thanks

in case it happens again, you can pull the main or head fuse, I had to that for a while till I had time to redo wiring on my 88 1k

nope..the location of the bad connector made everything hot, it actually was not the starter/solenoid cable, it was the fuel pump i think now , so it even had an uninterrupted supply, the switch on the right bars would do nothing either.. ill get a pic later
