Re: R6/R1 Digital Gauge Swap
Hi guys, i'm new here so be gentle, i'm building an FZR streetfighter using a 3tj frame, it already has a 600 engine conversion, i'm using a VFR750 swinger, Triumph hub conversion/Ducati wheel and a few other nice mods. I'm also doing the R6 speedo conversion and i stumbled across this fantastic forum and then this thread.
Now before i start i'm just not up for drilling a hole in my casing, although i can see if that's done properly it should be fine (i'm a motor engineer, i do big engined car conversions as my daily job so that sort of thing is acceptable), but i just think it's so much easier to point the pickup at an external cog and calibrate from there.
My question is, i've seen it mentioned a few times on this thread that the R6 picks up off the 6th gear cog inside the trans, and that it has 30 teeth. Now i've looked at all years of R6 6th gear cogs and not one of them has 30 teeth, usually 26 or 28 it seems. So can anybody give a definate answer for the number of teeth this gear has?
My plan is to mount the correct toothed cog on the outside of the rear sprocket, this will save a lot of time and money investing in a speedo corrector.
Great forum by the way, i'll start a thread on my project with pics of the bike as i go, thanks!

Re: R6/R1 Digital Gauge Swap
hi,
err the 6th gear mentioned is on a FZR engine, the R6 sensor spot is built in to the R6 engine,us poor FZR boys have to guess where the 6th gear is roughly and work from that.

Yep, i know that, i have an FZR600 engine in my 400 frame, so i need to know how many teeth are on that cog so i can replicate the signal outside of the casing.
I see 30 teeth mentioned twice, but none of the reference manuals show a 30 tooth cog.... obviously getting the number of teeth correct is vital for basic calibration.

It will be off as the TDI pulses for the Tacho need dividing by two to get that right. Most conversions I have seen working 100% use a "SpeedHealer" and that can allow the slight mis match of 26-30 teeth to work correct enough for the DMV to not notice.
Re: R6/R1 Digital Gauge Swap
Hmm , i'm a little confused, surely if the R6 uses say a 28 tooth cog and i fit a 28 tooth cog to my bike then the signal will be correct going to the R6 clocks? (assuming sprockets/tyres are the same)
I've seen the speed healer unit but i build my own speedo correction units for my Toyota Mr2 engine conversions that we carry out, works on the same principle but will correct up to 100% + or - of the original signal, so if it needs fine calibration for sprockets/tyre rolling radius i will use that instead, but i'd really like to know how many teeth are on that 6th gear cog so it will be close to start with.
Thanks for your help so far though, much appreciated.
Can anyone tell me how many teeth are on the R6 6th gear cog that the speedo signals from?

Re: R6/R1 Digital Gauge Swap
can any body tell what the voltage on the tach signal should look like? I want to through a voltmeter on mine before i hook up my gauges to it.

Hi,
not sure that MSzilves is still checking the forum try PM 'ing Rage Digital or Dontz125 as both are in the electronic side of biking
or try here to see if that helps:-

Do bear in mind that you fellows are responding to a post that's 6 months old, written by a fellow who hasn't been here since then ...
That said, I have FINALLY found a source for what I think and hope is the connector for the R1/R6 gauge set. I'm checking my adaptor design and wiring, and hope to go to prototype very soon.
