How hot do the rotor centers get during braking?

I'm wanting to paint my centers and I know I've seen it done. I was told that it would flake off if I just used regular body paint. Now I know powder coating is the way to go but I don't see why high temp paint wouldn't work. Do the centers get upwards of 500 degrees?
Chris.

Unless you're racing the bike where you would be doing a lot of heavy braking and going through a high amount of heat cycles then I think you don't have to worry. Did my rotor centers 2 years ago with regular old Krylon and they still look fine.

Thanks Duane. I kinda figured the same thing. The guy I was talking to was an HD rider. Maybe he grandmas the brake more than I do. Plus not to mention that his bike weighs 2x as much as mine.

Chris,
the only way the heat would build up to any kind of temp, is a} pads dragging ,b} stop go city traffic where the rotor inner gets too hot to touch but not in my experience enough to burn paint off. I used to ride in the tropics where discs could be almost 90 degrees by sitting parked in the sun and I did blue one disc riding hard so after that I used black bbq paint on the centers to help disapate heat quicker.

But he's only ridden it twice since then!

I really really wanted to say something like this but I don't know Duane as well as you Nate. And I didn't want to tick him off cause he helps me out a lot.
