Stock Decals and Paint

Does anyone know a good source for stock decals besides the dealer?

I'm looking at this place:
http://www.xtreemedecals.com/default.tp ... NSword=ww1

Has anyone had experience with their decals?

I have a 1995 model with the big lettered FZR on the lowers. I decided to "restore" the cracked fairings that came with my bike with some fiberglass and floral foam. Also I will be needing stock paint.

colorrite seems to be the only place that I have found so far with the correct stock color. I will be using spray can black for the black parts and i need to match the deep violet metallic (yamaha 0297). Need some input on other sources for this (I don't have a spray gun or compressor so I'm using spray cans for now)

Also here are some pics of the progress so far:

Xtreemedecals was a great site... they sent from Europe, but they made it in good timing, and the quality was superb... I'm going to be reordering 1 side of my leguna race kit since the bike took a spill and will be getting a facelift this winter. I e-mailed ahead in hopes of being able to order only the decals I need, and they were very helpful and open to all custom orders!!!

I'm still trying to get the stock paint color. The color I'm looking for is the deep reddish purple color.

I bought a can of DVM1 (deep violet metallic 1) from color rite and it turned out to be a much 'bluer' violet than what was there from the factory. Color rite didn't really know what color I was describing, so I'm sending them my front fender for a color match.

So who knows the color code for this reddish-purple metallic color? BTW not my bike below, but that's the same color scheme it came with. I have outlined it using mspaint in red...

Olie,

Next time you want to repair busted plastic take alook at a product called "PLASTEX" http://fzronline.com/wiki/doku.php?id=f ... th_plastex for details of how easy it is to use, the guys here use it and I have used it on afront top fairing at 120mph + so it is strong stuff.

If you can take a look at the dealers micro-fiche or the printed parts manual, Yamaha { - used to } give the colour code for the paint and that number was capable of being reverse engineered for the like of color-rite.

If you do discover it please PM me with details as I would like to add it to the WIKI Tech pages as I already have a couple of "broken" colour codes from Chris in Greece

ANYONE ELSE have paint codes? pass them on now to me via PM please

The way that I found out the paint code on mine was that I took the bike to the local CarQuest Paint Center in town where they have a camera/gun that analyzes the pain color and allows them to do an exact match. It helped them to determine which of the 14 or so "deep purplish-blue metallic" colors that Yamaha used. Hopefully that will help a little bit. my2cents

Finch,
I take it you did not make a note of what it was or keep the can to read us off the label ?

Actually, they gave me a printoff of the DuPont mixing sheet and everything that I have in a file at home. It may take a while to dig up but I'm sure I can find it again.

yamaha_george: that plastex stuff is pretty amazing. The only problem would have been finding the scoop off another fzr. It certainly would have been less messy than the fiberglass!

regardless of the countless hours of sanding and bondo-ing... i'm very happy with the results. I will post progress pics tonight.

Please do, what year/model of bike the colours are for would also clarify things I think when i come to put this in the WIKI.
Thanks

Ollie,
I was not knocking f'glass and bondo , being as old as i am I am well versed in their use too, but for some jobs ie cracks & small holes as you can see at:-

http://www.saltmine.org.uk/fzr/plastex.html

I figure plastex has definitely got a place & it is just a smelly :whistle

also a pic of the Yamaha Deep Violet Metallic 1 vs. the color I'm trying to match:

The above picture is 3 coats each separated by 20min.

Hmm ,
that is way too blue against the more red version I see peaking out from underneath.

I found a quick and dirty way of getting the paint codes. It just takes a little sleuthing. In the oem parts finders online you can see the description for the fairings they show you... You can see the graphic sets and all that stuff. They also give you the color description with the correct paint code for you bike's color scheme. For example this is how I found mine:

BODY, FRONT LOWER 1 ((06G) NEW YAMAHA BLACK/(434) VERY DARK MAGENTA COCKTAIL 1)

So the color I've been chasing is 0434! Got it from colorrite today and it was the correct color!

I taped off the fairing today and I will be painting tomorrow! I can't wait.
