Rust/Restoration

Hi folks,
What's the best way to restore all the various metal bits '88 FZR400? Some are rusted up and some look like the finish it just coming off (forks and steering). For the engine covers is it just a matter of repainting it black? What are the paint colors for the frame and body? I'm probably looking to rattle can it to save costs. Thanks.
