CR9* can be replaced cheaply and easily with that Autolite 4302 and 4303. The only difference is that it doesn't have that resister (c "R" 9) to cut down on radio interference noise.

D,
since you quote two types of Autolite which one actually is the same heat range as the OEM CR9R ?

Ahh so they straddle the heat range of the CR9R between the two of them so we can actually heat tune quit finely with the 3 Good to know for people in Hot & Colder part of the world/USA like Chicago & Austin Texas

The starting place is where Yamaha recommend the plug, after that it depends on the climate and your riding style and the individual engine itself..
Every engine I ever owned gets the manufacturers recommended plug , then ridden on , read the plug (see WIKI) and go from there. Just about all my bikes have precious metal electrode type in as they for me function more reliably than bog standard plugs, but that is just me.................
