I just bought a 87 fzr750, i also happen to have a 92 1000 exup engine with exup exhaust, loom, cdi and carbs.
I have been looking around the net for details on conversions, dont seem to be able to find a great deal of info, but it seems to me that i could bolt the 1000 barrel and head onto the 750 bottom end and in effect have a 1000exup with a 6 speed box.
Is this correct? What else would i need to change? Are any modifications needed?
Any draw backs? or better ways of getting the same outcome?

Joe,
FZR 750 are quite rare only a very small batch ever made if memory serves so Hybrids are going to be very thin on the ground.I have heard stories of 1K engines in 750 frames but never a hybryd.

If i am correct and the 750 is still rare a restore would make you more money on resale.

unfortunately the 750 engine is in a 1000 frame as the original 750 got smashed to pieces by a mate some time ago, so resale value is never going to be high.
I am aware that the 750 has a shorter stroke than the 1000 but as far as i can see the bolt patterns and external dimensions of the two engines are identical.
I believe that some hybrid engines have been made up for fz750s and i think they have the same engine as the fzr750.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I hope your friend is ok after the crash. Since the bike is already a hybrid then it makes sense to continue on that path.My experience with FZR's is limited but I am sure Stig & Y-Geo.(both brits ) probably can find a source of info.

Thanks Nik my friend is ok now it was around 5 years ago, he shattered his shoulder socket and now has more metal in his wrist than bone, but he can still use all his limbs.

Like Nik, I had not realised that the crash was so long ago and it is good to hear that he made a full recovery. I know he sold the bike that threw him off but did he get another bike OR did he say enough is enough and stuck with a car instead. ?


After my race car crash I could not get behind the wheel again, yet I have come off bikes a few times and it did not phase me, damage of the mind rather than physical. odd thing the human body

He rebuilt the bike over 4 years, most of this time he spent trying to find a straight frame, i think he bought 3 f***ed frames before he finally found a good one.
After he finished it and having it on the road for a few months he decided that he would move on to trail bikes as felt like he would end up killing himself if he kept the FZR.
