mike,
I haven't done it but I think the FZR 600 radiator is the way to go. You are right - it doesn't bolt in on the stock mounts because the fan can't clear the engine. You have to fabricate some new mounts for it.
Some smarter people should be along here shortly to add some experience to this thread.

Mike, if someone wrote "you can't use the FZR600 radiator on the FZR 400" then they were mistaken. You can make anything work. Nothing with enough cooling capacity will be a straight bolt on. There is no discussion there, but you must realize that you will have to mock it up on the bike and make some simple sheet metal brackets.

The discussion has been on this board before and the link is pictures of what what was discussed as alternatives as we are not all other makes savvy.
Basically any rad can be made to work just be sure it is big enough to cope with the hot engine of an FZR 600.
Fitting it all together is where the work & ingenuity comes in, no matter what you choose the thinking & metal work is down to you.

I used a YZF600 radiator because that is what I had. Of what is known to work (FZR600, YZF600, F2/3, ZX6) it would be difficult to say what is "best". As George intimated above, a little creativity will go a long way. All will require custom mounting, and two (YZF, ZX6) provide ports for an oil cooler. I personally like the aluminium ZX6 radiator cuz it looks bad a$$.
