Hi guys, thought i'd start a build thread about my bike, it's an 89 FZR400 (3TJ) but has had a Foxeye 600 engine conversion.

Although i love the stock FZR400 fairing i have always had a love of Ducati styling, so one of my first mods was to fit the 996 top fairing. I kept the 400 lower fairing and it was incredibly easy to align both halves, in fact there is very little work to do to get this to work and look how it should.

The bike also has an R6 tail conversion and i've just finished installing my r6 digital clocks with the help of some excellent threads on this forum. I still need to calibrate the tacho (easy) but everything else works as it should. I've recently gone with a high level Micron can too, looks much better.

Other planned mods include a VFR750 swingarm conversion with 800 wheel, R6 rear shock and R6 front bluespot calipers (with MC).

The bike also needs a full paintjob (we have a fully operational spray booth so not a problem). So she's very much a work in progress and hopefully will be ready come spring.

What FZR? Looks like a real Hybrid going on there... Keep the pics coming!

good luck with the build. i'm sure it will come out nicely. have you gotten the lights yet?

oh, and keep an eye on the heigt of the headlights, when they fit up to the stock plastics, they come out aiming a bit low.

i just looked again, you have the good 400! probably fit a bit better than mine.

Hi Target, yeah your bike was the inspiration behind me using the ducati fairing, i love the look. Yours seems to be pointing downwards a little compared to mine, yes i agree i think it fits the 3TJ lower fairing a lot better.

Still looking for a headlight, those things are not cheap!

Minor update, the project has taken a slightly different direction with the swing arm, i was originally going to use a VFR750 SSSA but i've now decided to go 5EB R6 swinger, in fact the entire rear will be R6. I've already bought the complete back end for cheap.

I'm aware of the difference in front sprocket offset between YZF600 and FZR600 motors mentioned in another thread, anyone know if my UK spec Foxeye engine will have the YZF or FZR front sprocket offset?

It has the YZF600 sprocket offset. The UK Foxeye (FZR600R) is nothing more than an early model YZF600 engine. The differences are very minor between the 2.

Today i made a bit of a discovery, something that i'd not read anywhere before so hopefully proves useful to someone.

I decided to start my R6 swingarm conversion, and while measuring pivot widths against the 3TJ frame (which are different) i looked at the pivot bolt and it looked like it might be a close fit to the R6 one.... would you believe they are identical diameters! My 3TJ pivot bolt fits the R6 roller bearings exactly!

This means once i have trimmed my swinger down and moved the bearings inboard (one is already done, doing the other tomorrow), it will bolt up to the frame like stock with no frame mods at all.

Is this new info?
