Are there any 17" wheels that will just bolt on to the 90 fzr 400 ? suzuki, kawasaki, honda ???

Nope. The only 17" wheels that I do believe will bolt on are TZ250 wheels, but they're made solely for the track.

If you are talking cast wheels as RD says no only the race wheels of aTZ and state side they are like gold capped dragons teeth I am told.

How ever there is an alternative if you do not mind using wire (spoked) wheels, I have got rid off my extremely heavy cast wheels on my project bike & replaced them with spoked wheels for which I can use any rim diam & width I like front and back. That bike was always "twitchy" so i used a19" front wheel that cured it and the bike will railroad track thro corners like a freight train.

The TZ250 is a production GP bike, intended purely for track use. While some tracks can be pretty rough, none of them present the same shattering pounding as your typical downtown street. Road bikes have much heavier wheels, to take the abuse (within limits - I've seen some truly screwed up rims from hitting pot holes). TZ rims wouldn't last the day on a Toronto street...

Ok so then my options are keep the stock 400 rims, or do a swingarm swap to get r6, or some other rims. There are like no tires choices for 18".

That is correct. The 18" rim is a very rare size for a sport bike and so there are few tire choices.

You can do swing arm swaps of all sorts... single-sided swing arms (see CAD600), R6 swaps, YZF600 swaps, GSXR swaps... you name it. HOWEVER; they are not plug and play. There may be extensive machining, welding, cutting, grinding, altering, etc... to get them to fit properly.

Plus, you will never get the money back out of the swap that you did and it may nickel and dime the heck out of you. But I, like many others here, wouldn't have it any other way....

Top photo was my FZR600 with a Suzuki rim on it. The middle was my FZR400 hybrid with a YZF600 swingarm / motor. The bottom is my latest creation FZR/GSXR hybrid.

Hmmm, tough decision, i really dont want to do swingarm swap, front end swap, getting to deep into the wallet. I think i will just stay with whatever tire choices i can find, i dont do track days, i like to ride the canyons here in So CA, so i will probally be fine. Thanks for your input, i like your 3 bikes, im in the process of ripping my all the way down and sticking it back together.

That's being extremely wise. You can get a nice set of Avon's for the bike and run the dickens out of it.

On a personal note... I was spending so much money trying to get the FZR to newer bike standards that I actually saved money selling my FZR stuff and buying the 05 GSXR you see in the last image. All it really needed were some stainless steel brake lines - stops on a dime. That bike is everything I was looking for and I get to ride it instead of tinkering with it.... course, I just bought a cheap dirt bike and ATV to keep my tinkering habit in check.

Would u happen to know the name of the Avons ?. Yeah i dont want this to be a long drag out project, nickel and dime me to death. I want to put the 600 motor in and puts some different fairings and half way decent suspention and go rip it up .

I have read enough threads here, and other forums to see projects go on forever, im not going to cheap out, but i dont want a $7000 bike in the end, i could have bought a R6 or Gsxr for that much, but im doing it because its fun, and everybody and his mother has a R6 or R1.

thanks for that information. I talked with a guy who used to race the fzr 400, he told me that Ducati Monster rims 17" are darn close to a bolt on, with very very min mod needed.

Hmmm.... the only one that might fit would be the 09+ since the earlier Monsters used single-sided swing arms (to my knowledge). That would also widen the rim which would misalign the sprockets similar mating a YZF600 swingarm to a FZR400/600 motor.

I actually had in my possession a 17" Suzuki Bandit (we do believe) rim that mounted right up to the FZR, but the previous owner had the sprocket carrier milled down and I had to make spacers.

That price is way too high, especially for something that you would require machining. Plus, it is also missing the brake rotor. You could have a nice new Avon rear tire for that price.

Don't sweat the 18" rim. Get the Avons on there and ride....
