I'm cutting the mounts off and will have new ones welded onto the frame so they sit out far enough. I'm going with 1/2" thick steel and will cut the bolt down and drill it so I can put a retaining pin through it. Help any?

yeah that makes sense. i did some quick measuring and it looks like it i cut them down 0.500" (the peice that mounts to the peg) it should clear. the YZF600r measurement is about 9.750" wide and the FZR600 peg distance is 9.000". i dont really feel like cutting these off right now since i am not close to a welder and the bike is my daily driver right now. over winter i am up for that thought.
ill see if my quick fix helps. i dont feel like spendin a ton for rear sets

I would agree with you. The only nice part about doing it this way is that I can use any aftermarket rearset I want to. Since I drilled and tapped my own mounts. I've found the Gixxer rearsets are on ebay quite often and relativly cheap. The only difficult part is finding ones that have the same shift linkage type.

thats easy, i will be using this style: i am buying stock ones though, i am not comfortable with non-pivoting pegs for the street. also i really like these rear gsxr's anyway...from the looks of it all i need is spacer plate made and then i can move the pegs back 1 inch and up and inch anyway like i want so my foot peg problem is sloved!...ill be talking mod king soon again it seem.
01-03 gsxr 600
00-03 gsxr 750
01-020 gsxr 1000

can't you just use spacers behind the peg brackets and the heel guard? just a guess here...

i can but it throws off the rear brake master cylinder. i am going to machine them down .500" per side to get me by right now. i will be upgrading to new style rear sets thought.

just put some washers behind the rear sets, shave down the rear of them at an angle and you will clear just fine.

i think ill clear, i machined them down .500 from the backside. they were .750 thick. that just gained me an inch until i can aford gsxr rear sets....which might be never!

abs can you post some pics of what you did? I've got a YZF swinger/wheel coming next week, and will likely need to do this as well. thanks

check out the pics of my rearsets to get some ideas. they are the sets off of a YZF. they fit great. have to weld a nut onto the outside of the bracket to hold the bottom on because if you go straight thru on the bottom the chain will rub it. B

pic of what did..machined them down about .500" per side on the back, also had to mill the screws down .375" to hold the footpegs on and retapped the bolts.
700 miles so far and no problems...just look like hell since i ride alot.
