So I have been doing a ton of research and I would like to share with the community. I would like to start off by saying that I do make mistakes to if anyone feels they can correct any ideas/facts I am presenting here feel free.

FZR400 swing arm
Length: 19.5" or 0" relative to FZR400)
Material: Aluminum
Aesthetics: Plain unbraced
Weight: Don't know anyone wanna measure?
Negative: - Allows up to a 4.5" rim ONLY
Positive: - Stock item, quite light, requires no cutting of frame or swingarm

YZF600
Length: 20" or (+1/2" relative to FZR400)
Material: Steel
Aesthetics: Plain unbraced
Weight: Don't know anyone wanna measure?
Negative: - requires cutting of swingarm
Positive: - don't need to modify frame
- Will fit FZR1000 rear wheel bolt on (this is a 5.5" rim)
- Can fit 99-02 R6 rear wheel for 5.5" rim as well but requires machining

89-94 FZR1000 swing arm
Length: 20.5" or (+1" relative to FZR400)
Material: Aluminum
Aesthetics: Plain unbraced
Weight: Don't know anyone wanna measure? but its supposed to be lighter than the yzf600
Negative: - requires cutting of swingarm a bit pivot width is 241 or 250mm i have read conflicting things
Positive: - don't need to modify frame
- Will fit FZR1000 rear wheel bolt on (this is a 5.5" rim)
- Light swingarm

99-02 R6 swing arm
Length: 21.5" or (+2" relative to FZR400)
Material: Aluminum
Aesthetics: Looks good braced, somewhat long
Weight: Don't know anyone wanna measure?
Negative: - May require a lot of cutting of frame
Positive: - Use first gen r6 wheel 5.5" rim

03-05 R6 swing arm
Length: 21.5" or (+2" relative to FZR400)
Material: Aluminum
Aesthetics: Looks great, but is too long for the FZR400 frame IMO
Weight: Don't know anyone wanna measure?
Negative: - May require a lot of cutting of frame
Positive: - Use modern r6 wheel 5.5" rim and light

TZ250 swing arm
Length: 20.3" or (+3/4" relative to FZR400)
Material: Aluminum
Aesthetics: Nice banana swing arm
Weight: Don't know anyone wanna measure?
Negative: - May use 4.5" rim only
- hard to find and expensive
- Some suspension redesign is required
Positive: - Fit the frame no cutting required only spacers needed and pivot sleeve made
- Very light wheel and swing arm

Now finally, the option that I haven't really seen or heard much about yet that I did a bunch of research on my own for.

96-99 SRAD GSXR swing arm
Length: 20.3" or (+3/4" relative to FZR400)
Material: Aluminum
Aesthetics: The 600 has a plain unbraced swingarm. The 750 has a braced swingarm, their critical dimensions are the same.
Weight: Don't know anyone wanna measure?
Negative: - Hasn't been done yet to my knowledge
- It's GSXR stuff <--- just a jab at GSXRs
- Some trimming of the arm is needed to fit frame but hopefully will not require any trimming of frame
Positive: - No trimming of frame will be required (I will know better once I have all the parts)
- Good parts availability can use 5.5" rear rim anywhere from 96-03
- Only 3/4" extra wheelbase

I will be doing a GSXR SRAD swingarm swap on my FZR400 and I will produce a full write up

Ok so I now have the GSXR750 swingarm and was taking measurements off of profile drawings I had and basing them off of the wheelbase.

Well I now have the swing arm and my measurements were bang on.

The GSXR SRAD swing arm is 51.5cm or 20.3" You could probably adjust is 1/4" inch smaller maybe less. Anyways wheelbase wise thats not bad. Now I gotta admit the swing arm feels VERY heavy. I am going to weigh it in the morning. But it may just feel that heavy cuz I got the GSXR wheel attached to it. Which I will also weigh in the morning.

Now some of the other measurement's I'll put up.

Image

The 225mm pivot width is with no dust covers on.

The good news and I am not 100% sure is the FZR400 swing arm has a pivot width of either 215mm or 220mm I have found different measurements. But either way the cutting is minimal. Depending on the actual FZR pivot width it's either going to be about 5mm from each side or 2.5mm from each side which is AWESOME!

I will get the weights posted up tommorow. Peace out for now!

theres also this one.

Image

it is about 3/4" longer, dont know the specs, but is very light. uses a 17" rim, i think it is a 4.5, but cant remember off the top of my head. fits the frame fine, only need a couple of small spacers made, and a new pivot sleeve. cons, hard to find and expensive. will have to redesign suspension setup, which reminds me i have to have the pretty one made, still rolling on the prototype.

Thx I'll add it. Can you give me an actual length spec? from pivot to axel.

i'll have to measure it up this weekend. plus i just like picture whoring! haha nice writeup though, we should try to compile a couple of nice pics of each, not hundreds, just a couple of good angles.

Ya I was thinking about that. I would like to put a couple pics and then maybe a link to a how-to. Since at aleast a few of those have how tos.

Weights:

96-99 SRAD Swingarm with shock linkage, axel, pivot bolt, brake caliper, and caliper arm weighs exactly 10kg or 22lbs

The 03 GSXR600 rear wheel with a dunlop tire, cush, sprocket and rotor on there wieghs 14.8kg or 32.5lbs

FZR 400 RR sP swingarm swop:
Ok there are some options for swingarms. They are rare and hard to find in the states. You can get the Delta Box from the 1990 FZR400, the box section swing arm for the 88-89 FZR400. You can also get a FZR400r 3en braced swing arm like an R6. You can also fit a FZR400rr 3tj swing arm.

FZR400rr 3tj. Ultra trick, light, stiff, EXTRA wide (widest) - work involved - you will need to make a spacer for the swing arm pivot bolt. Easy for any machine shop. You will need the rear brakes too. Axel is larger in diameter too

The 600 and the 400 swingarm are 22 cm wide at the point where they go into the frame

swingarm bearing sizes:
-outer diameter: 37mm
-inner diameter: 24mm
-length: 30mm
(250 mm = 1 inch)

The 400rr chain is smaller than the 600. The 400 is 428 and the 600 is 530.
Renthal makes makes conversion kits for the 400 and the 600 to change to 520.
Youl'll need a 520 rearsprocket for the 400rr wheel and a 520 frontsprocket for the 600.

By converting the sprockets you don't need a off-set front sprocket to outline the chain.

The original tailrisers are too long because the 400 RR wheel is 1" smaller.

Swing arm swap continued....

The Project, hybrid: http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... opic=28419

right, take your 600 swingarm off.
now the spindle you took out that holds swing arm too frame you are using again.
right.. inside the 400 swing arm theres a tube that the sleeve goes through like in my picture yes.
take this out and you will see your 600 spindle wont fit as the 400 sleeve
is too big correct?
now take both parts..600 spindle and the 400 sleeve too a machinest in your area,
and ask him too make you a sleeve too fit in side your 400 sleeve"the shiny silver part on mine so it will take your 600 spindle.

I am almost finished swapping the GSXR swing arm. So far so good. I had a small heart attack thinking it might hit the engine cases and not be able to get in. But it appears there is actually room.

However I did have to trim some of the rearset bracket so the swingarm will clear. But it wasn't very much. I also have to check the shock travel and make sure the swing arm will clear the frame in the entire travel length.
