I am interested in doing a 2006+ R6 tail swap.

So what's the common practice? Trim the FZR tail a bit make some brackets and use the R6 plastics? OR

Get an R6 subframe and have that welded/adjusted to fit the FZR?

My only thing is that I would like the tail to have that nice natural upwards angle you would find on the R6. But obviously if I can achieve the same angle/ aesthetics with the FZR piece I rather save the money.

Oh ya and is there any weight savings to be had with the R6 subframe vs the FZR steel subframe?

There is no single way to do it right. It all really depends on your skill level. If you have the skills to weld or have access to someone who does, then add the whole subframe.

Since I don't have a welder I went with an airtech tail, but I could just as easily have done an earlier R6 tail, like an '03 without major modification.

And, unless you're shaving weight to go racing, I wouldn't worry about weight savings.

If a different subframe is being used, what have people done with the shock mount? Does it get relocated and welded to the main frame? OR is new one fabbed onto the new subframe?
