Why in the hybrid section? Because it's not going to stay all FZR400 forever.

Picked it up last night, it's all there, had to drain the tank and refill it with fresh fuel but that got it to fire right up. Carbs probably need to be cleaned still, but it holds an idle at least.

Barebones cockpit, but I like it.


Not the prettiest, but it's there. All the factory wiring is intact, too. I have a box full of LABELED pigtail harnesses saying what was pulled off. Somebody took their time with this bike, too bad it's been sitting for like 8 months.


Battery won't hold a charge and needs to be replaced, but it seems like a lot of stuff has been removed. I'll have to get more pics.


So for now, immediate plans are just to clean it up and get it running properly again. Front brakes need to be bled, new battery, and I'm not very confident in the pretty shagged looking tires either. I dunno if I should bother replacing them or just look for a swingarm setup and a front end swap. Suggestions?

I would just swap the suspension personally...

Well, that's the plan, but if there's a cheap way to get this thing rideable ASAP, it would be easier because then I could save up some $$$.

alternatively, I've been trying to sell my ZB50 but gotten no bites. That would give me enough for the whole suspension right now.

I would have bought that bike in a minute as well - great buy. And personally, I would run it as a 400 at Laguna.

The side cover text, although difficult to decipher, resembles "Yoshimura's" logo.

I sorta thought it might have been something Yoshimura as well. Just an aftermarket clutch cover?

Got a few potential front ends lined up!

A guy local here also has an FZR, and he's got both a YZF750 front end and an R1 front end. Not sure which way to go, though.

The peanut cover is a factory pro item.

The r1 will have more adjustments available than the YZF..unless the YZF front end is an SP. It will also be easier to mount, for example, blue spot calipers on the r1 as well (no grinding is involved).

Are you planning on racing as well? I only ask because you can't swap the forks and still run in the vintage category. If not planning on racing, then have some fun with it and do a swap. What year are the forks? The YZF750 and R1 are both 50mm forks, the YZF750 has a wheel driven speedo were the R1 you would definitely have to use an aftermarket speed sensor. The steering stem from the YZF750 is very similar to the FZR400/600. You should be able to just press the stem out and in with minimal work, but the stem is too long for it directly bolt up. The R1 stem requires a little more work than that. Plus, the YZF750 and 98-01 R1 forks are very similar and offer the same amount of adjustability.

Nah, not racing, just a fun track toy. To be honest, though, I'm not even that worried about a speedometer. As long as I have a functional tach, I'm good

Also, the R1 front end is from a 2004.

OR you could use the lower & upper fork clamps without either stem and use the universal mount tech. that was discussed time and time again when you all go about expensive methods ........... Nerd

You mean using the threaded rod, right?
