FZRSupport: the FZROnline Archive

I bought a complete yzf750 swingarm setup and will be installing it in the next couple weeks. I need to know how much I can machine down the pivot tube on the swingarm and what else needs to be done for bearing fitment. Im gonna have bushings made so I can use my fzr swingarm bolt and my goal is to grind as little off the frame as possible.

i dont know about the yzf 750 but i did the 04r6 and i pushed in the bearings as much as they would go and i ended up with having to open up the frame to 9 3/8 in i dident have to do any welding it pretty much just made it taking most all the exposed bushing off and not going into the actual frame. but the bearings dont go that far into the swing arm you could take them out and take out and grrind out some of the tube and get them in farther if you want.

The pivot tube measures 9 5/8" (without dustcaps). It looks like I can machine the pivot tube down to 8 3/4" but I'll have to also machine the inside bearing seat. If I end up using the fzr swingarm bolt then I wont be able to use the yzf dustcaps but the bushings I have made should work well enough to protect the bearings right? How improtant is it to have the dustcaps on there? The dirt and grime get to the bearings even with them on there so what purpose do they serve?

im not using the dust caps on mine the bearings dont move that much im under the impression that even if there was dirt in there it wouldent do much but im not sure its not like a wheel bearing.i think there more for water it seems like it would be pretty hard to get dirt in there. if you can get your pivot tube down that small you shouldent have to take much off if any.

whats the pivot gap in the frame for the swingarm?
or better yet, does anyone know the pivot length of the fzr swingarm?

I measured the distance between the frame pivot points and I got 8 7/8". What material should I have those bushing machined out of? Stainless steel?

oh yea. I would use steel or some high grade aluminum.

looks cool, seen one of these done years ago...for correcr frame spaced check my yzf600r swap thread, it says the distance the frame alows.
