YZF Head on FZR Block, Will it Work?

Post by tkclow »

I have a lead on a YZF600r motor with a bad tranny for $50.00. What is involed with taking the head from the YZF and using it on my FZR? Would I need the carbs also. Thanks for any input

If i recall that would make a 660...might want to search for that. I know it's been mentioned a few times now.

that my friend is called a 660 conversion...you will need a programable cdi and a spacer plate for the head which you can get from dru for $80 or something like that. I believe you need the yzf harness as well...
yes you will need the carbs...

if you dont wanna go threw all the work then i can take it off your hands because im in need of new motor...lol welll...head gasket but i might also need new rings which are $270!

you need more than just the head for the 660.

Yep, a little more than just the head...
Like the pistons, cylinders, cooling tubes, carbs, etc.

As far as fitting the head, someone with a little more knowledge of the yzf motors will have to chime in as to whether the head will swap out or not. I know that even if you go with the YZF head, the intake ports are different, so you'll have to use at least the intake boots from the yzf and probably the carbs, which don't fit the airbox properly.

IMHO, it would be too big of a can of worms to use that head, but if you could get the motor, even with a bad tranny it's worth something to someone, and someone here (like myself :whistle ) would probably buy it off of you for more than enough to get a decent head.

I'd buy it and either sell it whole or part it, and then buy the head to get your bike back on the road. my2cents

hey finch, is there something you need on it? I don't have a problem picking it up if I know someone can use some stuff from it, I haven't seen it yet. The guy did mention to me he thinks the case has a crack near the stator cover but I don't know how bad. Just let me know

Yep, I just swapped a whole YZF engine in. I'm going to start working on the 660 again soon.

The yzf head will fit the fzr cylinder.

Here is what I did to make it work on my 560 superbike motor:
FZR 600 cylinders 1mm over (cylinder block machined to accept yzf cylinder studs)
yzf coolant tubes
yzf carbs, intake boots, throttle assembly/cables
fzr600 airbox modded to accept yzf carbs

Out of the box...worth 5hp at peak.

Might be interested in gasket plus spacer. Depending on spacer and gasket thickness(I wanna run as thin as possible I think it's like 3mm + .25 or something). And of course how much you are asking.
