custom plastic yzf tank cover
hi all im new to the board but a long time fan as i have had a fzr600 for a few years now and jsut started doing some mods i know people are fond of the yzf600 tank swap but it is a pain in the butt for some people as they have to re locate the fule pump and mod brackits
others say they the bike runs like crap once you mod the air box no mater what you do and others say the pod filter options are justr as bad even with a jet kit i am in the process of making plastic or fiberglass yzf600 tank covers just like the fzr has now molded of of a yzf600 tank that way you dont have to mod anything and you can keep your existing setup
any 1 intureste if so let me know shoot me an email at jesterfx@ymail.com because if it is worth it i will continue further on this project and make them avaliable to every 1

Re: custom plastic yzf tank cover
hey! you finally joined!
i was going to do the same thing with the r1 tanks i have...but you would have the make your own fuel tank because the cover wouldnt fit over the fzr tank...
and yes, people here love pics!
make a "intruction welcome" in the introduction section about yourself and show everyone your beautiful fizzer!

Re: custom plastic yzf tank cover
That is definitely an interesting idea. would help with the R6 tail swap for some people. i just wonder what the cost would be after the time and material needed to put into it. it may be cheaper to get a YZF tank. Part of the reason for the YZF tank is that it is metal, and you can use a magnetic tank bag, and it is a more sturdy thing to grip with your knees, instead of the plastic. However, that being said, it would be a hell of alot easier to slap a YZF tank cover on instead of doing the mod. so, like shred mentioned
and i mean both tank cover and bike! now c'mon, make with the goodies!
BTW, welcome to the board

thanks for the welcome guys i want to post pix of the tank cover but i still have to make it if i can get 5-10 people between here and the arcives i will make it the matyerials alone to make the mold are expensiave i want to at lease be able to brake even on the mold if anything. but here are pix of the nike i built nothing to special yet
it is an 89 frame with a 93 600r motor and veriouse pieces from the 89, 93 and 96 i bout all 3 stripped them down to the fraim and took all the best parts. it has an airtech kit intergrated directionals on the mirrors a 08 r6 rear blinker dont know what rear rim is on it but it is a 18x4.5 with a 47 tooth sprockit but fits on the 96 swing arm i just got new hand brips with blue led blinkers i am adding along with new blue led's and gauges this weekend
let me know what you think and if you are inturested in the tank cover let me know like i said if i get enough peopel i am going to move foward with the project if not i am just going to take my chances moding the air box

Re: custom plastic yzf tank cover
depends on if i have them vackuformed or i make them out of fiberglass i am trying to keep it no more than 150$ as i know that it is not going to sell if the price is higher especially with the way the econimy is but def not lower than 100 so i guess if you can understand my rambeling between 100-150 dont really want to quote a price till i have a better idea but def not more than 150 even with my special fx work i do i try to keep my prices affordiable i like being able to markit things to every 1 not just people with money

Re: custom plastic yzf tank cover
Thats all I was looking for was a ballpark price. If they are in that range and just a bolt on that looks like the YZF tank I will definatley be interested. I wasn't looking at the YZF tank swap for anything really other than looks with an R6 Tail. Keep us posted

Re: custom plastic yzf tank cover
ok thanks i feel the same way it looks so much better than the original tank cover byt doing the mod will make the bike loose so much also with this mod it will allow people to still us ethe stock seat if they want all you will have to do is dremil out the same hole as on the stock tank cover.
i need to decide what i am going to do as with the airtech tail i dont know if i can us ethe r6 seat i have coming i may just also mod the hell out of the tail i love the look of it so much so i wa stinking of making a custom glass unter tail to fit the new tail lites and new rear seats than molding it and making them avaliable as well that way it is just a direct bolt on for people

Re: custom plastic yzf tank cover
send me pix of your r1 cover of all angels even off of the bike the tank cover is allways best but pix wil work and i will see if it can be donr like i said in my email i am a professional mold maker and caster so i may be able to make it work if there is a will ther is away look at all the things people have found a way to mod to fit this bike and the beauty of plastick is once its molded and vack formed it can be heat bent if need be to fit
also i have decided that i propb am going to have them vack formed the pleatic will be thick enough to hold the shape and detail and withstand the heat that mya come off of the frame or engin
