660 Motor, finally running :)

Hi,

just wanted to show you my 660 Motor.

I used
-YZF 600 4TV crankcase, cylinders, pistons and carbs
-YZF 600 4JH (FZR600R in europe) head with portjob, adjustable gears, polished valves etc.
-FZR 600 3HE crankshaft
-FZS 600 Fazer 5DM gearbox, clutch and (i think thats totally new for everyone) rods

the FZS rods have some considerable advantages about FZR or YZF rods, first they are lighter then both the others, second (and thats the real awesome thing) they have exactly the same lengh as the 3HE rods with the bore of the YZF rods
theres another cool thing about the FZS 600 motor, you all know the factorypro shift kit? you wont need it cause the FZS already has a shiftarm with rollerbearing :)

the pictures where taken last year after i assembled the motor, turned out it wont have a spark with the YZF generator cover/pickup so it now has the complete 3HE Ignition together with the ugly stock generator cover, but it runs and thats what realy important for me.

Congrats. So how did you get to play around on it yet? Hows the power feel?
I've never even seen a cover like that before.

Why did you use the FZS gearbox?

unfortunately i couldnt ride it for longer then few hundred meters, then i (re)recognized the 660 motor is wider then the 3HE so the chain rubbed at a screw of the footpegs, i think the carbs need new jetting before i can say anything about how it realy runs.

4TV=Thundercat

the FZS gearbox i used because i had it laying around, its almost the same as 4JH/4TV with the same gear transmission ratio

Awesome! I am really awaiting the ride-report!

wow. How do you find out all the details about for example the rods and so on??? Do you have all that stuff laying about??
Very nice motor,good work.

thanks for the compliments

the 660 concept (3HE crank/4JH cylinders+head) i saw on a website many years ago, the rest i found out by building the thing but to tell the truth its actual an easy mod, like yamaha did just build this three engines (3HE,4JH/4TV, FZS) to be put together to one  the only thing you have to make by yourself is a small distance ring so you can use the original 4JH crankseal with 3HE crank
it was total coincidence that i found out about the cool FZS stuff advantages, thought the engine was the same as the thundercat so i got a smahed one from ebay cause i needed a crankcase, turned out the crankcase is quite different tho the 4JH/4TV case and doesnt fit into FZR frames but the gearbox and clutch where kinda the same + the rollerbearingshiftarm, same size pistons and rods (i thougt, didnt measure them). When the day came i wanted to put the parts together to see how it all fits i noticed that the rods are exactly the same lengh as the 3HEs, jackpot :grinnod:
pistons are bit lighter then 4JH and 4TV one but i had to use 4TV pistons cause there where only 3 nondamaged pistons in my FZS motor :/

You can actually buy a seal for the crank that is the correct inside and outside diameters to put the FZR crank into the YZF cases.

So the FZS conrods are the same length as the FZR but has the same wrist pin diameter as the YZF. That solves the problem of needing the spacer plate. Good find.

I don't know if that solves the problem of the spacer plate. Did you use a spacer plate?

No i didnt use a spacerplate, thats why the FZS rods are so cool ;)

I need some of those........... lol I have a spare YZF600r motor sitting around.

tell me can the rods from a YZF600r work on the FZR600 crank? I was told yes

My understanding is yes, but they're a little short and thus you need the base gasket spacer.

I've got a set mounted right now. Just waiting to start building the engine again. I've found the correct size seal for the crankshaft so I can run the crank in a YZF engine case.
