YZF swinger swap has begun...... ( NOW COMPLETED )
OK guys. I've been a long timemember of FZRarchives. I think this is my first post here. This forum is awesome also. Thanks for all the info guys.
I got a lead on a whole wrecked YZF that has a good engine and rear end. Im pretty much covered as far as parts go to do my rear end swap but Im trying to put a list together to make sure I dont have to wait on anything once I start the swap. My goal is to have the YZF swinger cut down to lenght already. It will all be a matter of just swapping out parts once I start. be done in about 4 hours or so. So here is my list. if Im missing anything please chime in.
1. The complete swinger of course ( already cut down and new bearings pressed in )
2. JT brand sprocket for the front part # JT130715
3. 520 gold chain ( can someone please tell me how many links? )
4. Use the FZR dogbones
Is that all I need? Besides stuff to space out the rearsets?
Also.....does the YZF use a stock 530 or 520 setup? Reason I ask is because I have on my bike currently a 530 setup. Can I swap my 530 setup to the YZF and make a custom spacer for the front sprocket and use that instead?

Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
Welcome!
Chain, I believe its a 120 link. Thats what it took for mine but my swap is an R6. Have you had time to check out the WIKI and some of the build threads?

Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
The sprocket on my YZF600 wheel (I just happen to have one laying in the yard) is 530.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've been doing alot of reading. I think I will save myself the hassle of the spacer and just go with the 520 sprocket from JT (JT130715) and just get a 520 for the rear also. Will save myself alot of hassle and make up the weight difference from the heavier swinger.
I think thats pretty much it guys. Now Im off to trying to buy all the parts.

Thanks. Now I know I have to buy a complete 520 rear sprocket and chain kit.

Start a thread and post up some pics of your swap. Would like to see the swap in action.
Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
The YZF uses a 530 chain stock. Stock gearing is 15 front 47 rear and stock chain length is 108 links. Stay with the 520 conversion, use a kawi 636 520 front sprocket and you shouldn't have any alignment issues.jax wrote:

Might want to check through MrFreeze's Write up. Lots of good info in there.

Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
OK guys. I will post a new thread and show my progress. I guess I could go with either the kawa 636 sprocket or the JT sprocket. The good thing about the JT one is that I wont have to grind down the raised boss so the nut will fit on.
So far I found someone that is willing to sell me a complete YZF rear end shock, knuckle and everything included for 350 shipped. Is that too much?

Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
I'm a bit of a cheap skate so that price sounds high to me. But i could be wrong. You can do without the shock. Too long. Look for an 06 R6 shock (it has a red spring) or an 06 GSXR 600-750 Shock (it has yellow spring). Both shocks I mentioned have a fixed horizontal reservoir and require little to make work.

Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
I have the JT 636 sprocket on my swap.
Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
Got 1 more question guys....
In an effort to cut down costs. Do I need to get the YZF brake torque arm assembly? Or does the FZR one fit?

Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
Thanks alot guys. I currently am talking with a guy that has a 2003 YZF with running engine, good front forks, good rear with a new tire for 550. Should I take it and part out what I dont need?
Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
Some more info....a honda xr650 r dirtbike sprocket(2000-2007) has the same offset as the kawasaki (13.6) and can be purchased cheaper sometimes on fleabay. I bought one for 12 dollars. Also, The honda nt650 hawk gt sprocket fits as does the vt600 shadow cruiser(13.8 offset) , but these are a 525 chains, but yamaha put a stock rear 525 sprockets on a few bikes that bolts up directly to the yzf rim , so some one could go with the 525 chain setup if they wanted
Re: Help...getting parts together for the YZF swinger swap.
Alright guys. Looks like im going to pick up all the parts minus new bearings tomorrow for $200. I will still need to get the new needle bearings, front sprocket, rear sprocket, chain and powder coat my new wheel and paint the swingarm.
Been looking on ebay and you can find the stock Kawa 636 fron sprocket for about 20 bucks. Even the XR650 as someone suggested goes for about that much too. Should I go with one of those or just get a new JT one?
I'll need some help tring to find a cheap rear sprocket and chain setup. Also what gearing do I want to run? I dont care so much for top speed. I think my FZR now is 14/48?
