my project thread: 93 FZR 600 cafe-fightered for the track

Guess I should probably start this thread as in the next few weeks/months/years I should really start to get into it....really.....I should......I hope

I pulled her out of the back of Axis Motorsports, a subaru shop in the STL area, where I had been sitting for 4-5 years. The shop was basically a pig pole barn on a small plot of farmland, down a dirt/gravel road, so the whole shop was pretty dusty. the bike was just coated in nasty brown dust everywhere. Around the carbs, the only part of bike I haven't really messed with yet, it still us. But I've degreased most of it with lots of simplegreen :D

How she came home with me:
Image

(she had ratty seats on her but they were off for the pic)

after some cleanup(about half a bottle of simplegreen) and a few parts(new seats, seat cowl, messed with the rear fender, 'new' upper, r1 mirrors, 89-90 FZR 1000 angled headlamps):

Currently:
Trimmed and painted the upper with rattlecan Krylon Fusion, new to me and slightly less(but still bent) birdcage, thats been trimmed down(no mirror nounts) and a new cut down windscreen. Added some bluepots with stainless lines that I had laying around, rebuilt the front forks with 15w and ~1.5 inches of stainless washers for preload.

The next 2 steps are "biggun's"

First:
I have a YZF600 swinger setup from Rage that is also painted black, which will get red wheel stripes and then some clear coat I think.
Image
Its going to get a touch up on the black paint, and I have a shiny new front sprocket from a 636 to go with, a 16T, to pait with the 49T rear and be almost edactly stock. In teh spring I may order a 15 tooth for when I feel like getting retarded or go to a track day(tempted to get a 50T rear for that too)

I have a YZF750 front end(Thanks to GraphxSquid), the triples, controls, bluepots, clipons, wheel etc, that are all painted semigloss black.
Image
All it needs before it goes on is a tire for the front wheel. I have also ordered red wheel stripes that will go on it. The front fender was included as well in bright red.

So the original thought was to keep the classic yamaha wite/red/blue thing going on, but with all the glossy black parts showing up with some red....I'm thinking about going to to red/black I guess.....I might paint the sides of the frame and subframe since they are showing some rust....

I could also just get a nicer shape stock white/red/blue tank cover, and paint the black stuff I have silver before it goes on. Either way extra work is involved. Rhino liner spray bomb is tempting me for the frame and sidecovers.......if I go black I feel I should get new downtubes and paint them black then swap em out

I'm currently working on swapping a stock 600 spring onto my FZ1. I have 130mm doggies to go on. Although I am thinking I may want slightly longer ones. We'll see once they are fitted. If you suckas want me to keep doing dog bones ORDER A BUNCH cuz I'll need to get another sheet of AL, only room for 3 more sets on my sheet of 7075. :deal:

I have lots of other parts in the garage for it already......boxes and boxes and boxes. It's all a bit too much really. So I am told. :whistle

These will def go on this winter, probably with my next oil change:
FP shift pro shift kit
EBC clutch springs(put a new OEM spec clutch in a few hundred miles ago)
NRC Peanut Cover(If I decide to go black paint, I will paint it black, and I have spare front sprocket and clutch covers I would paint as well)

maybe:
2xYZF600 radiator in the garage, but the bike doesnt get that hot so.......we'll see

A V&H Supersport header(working out the exhaust still), have a 600RR undertail but it might require more work than I feel like doing. Looking at some nice hi mount pipes now....

if I do the exhaust, I will order another fp ign advance, and a 1.1 jet kit and k&N and emulsion tubes, so I only have to mess with jetting once. I really want to get a spare set of carbs, clean em up and install the jet kit so I can just swap the carbs on when it comes time.

I have spare tail plastics to paint. I wouldnt mind getting a spare tank cover to paint as well.

If I can keep selling parts from my FZR1K spares lot, I would like to get the dual 4" inchers from aztec8, and a new gauge setup from Koso:

or Electrosport

and add a buell flyscreen over it to get a real good fighter look. I looked at the buell lights but wasnt thrilled with how they look.

The idea is an around town beater and track ho until I get enough seat time to need a bike that needs more than 120 down the straights :)
of course, I have ADHD, so god knows what all I'll actually get done and how long I'll have her :swear

I like what you have done to her so far. Especially the front end and now the rear end will be hot! Are you going to go custom paint or keep it original like you wanted? I would go custom.

awesome project. Sounds like you have a really good foundation and lots of sweet parts to make it look very cool.

That front end looks great. Looks like you're going to have a busy winter.

:notworthy:

I'm tempted to get new downtubes, have them welded on to take some big sliders, and then powdercoat them black

but I wont paint the frame and engine, it will just be too much work

here is the color scheme inspiration

I could easily paint the clutch cover, sprocket cover, peanut cover though, as I have spares off all but the peanut and I plan on getting a race cover for the peanut cover...........

that might make me want to take lots of stuff off, mask, and rattle can the jugs though :tard:

I do have to take the exhaust off at some point anyways

yeah can you believe thats an 87 FZR 1000?

mine won't be near as slick as that

but,......I have the nice black forks and rear end

nice red fender

have red rattlecan that should match maybe 90%

so might as well go red and black!

actually it's hard to believe that's a FZR1000 frame and engine. The swingarm looks much newer though (?) definitely a more recent fork.

Nice color scheme.

my2cents
