I have seen CBR900RR motors and YZF750 motors installed but have yet to see a R1 installed. Is the R1 the same size as a 900RR or YZF750 ?

I don't know much about this topic but I know for a fact the r1 has a lot if wiring that needs to be done.

The CBR and YZF engines in question were carb'd. I daresay a Gen1 R1 with carbs would have rather fewer wires and sensors than a current EFI version ...

The R1 has a stacked gearbox, the height of the engine is going to be taller probably putting the carbs up to the underside of the tank.
This is before you consider the frame looking rather weedy compared with R1. The swingarm too ... the R1 has a longer arm so it copes with the torque the shorter 400 would just see lots of wheelies and wheel spin, not much control.
Generally you'll take a good 400 and a great R1 design and combine them into a bike that would be hard to make and poor to ride ... a bit shit really.
The 600 conversions are fairly easy and take a heavy 600 and light 400 and improve both
The 750 is heavier and the frame has to be cut and shut, its a bit too much work and breaks the steering head + bearings so not really worth it.
The 900 needs new top mounts and a bottom mount but its quite doable. The engine is only 10kg more I think so you end up with a good bike - just note this is a 3TJ frame not a 1WG.
