Does that mean you're gonna be getting rid of the silver frame when you're done mocking it up?

Yeah, the silver frame is getting recycled. It has a salvaged titled which is how this whole build started in the first place. Originally I was just swapping frames... heh, the only two things still FZR is the frame and motor.

Reason I ask is that registration laws are fairly lax in Alabama and I may be able to use it for a build I'm considering undertaking, if you were interested in selling it.

FINALLY! I got my frame back from the machine shop! I took some shitty pics with my camera phone but I'll take better ones later. It turned out more legit than I could have hoped for. The swingarm is mounted upside down and backwards because the mounts for the rearsets hit. Im either gonna have to beat them out a little bit or cut them off and weld some new mounts.

7 weeks and $465 later...

WOW! Those pics are super-sized AND shitty. Well, they look ALOT better on my computer but for some reason its not uploading the same so I'll get some better ones up later. The bottom pic you can kinda see the pivot tube in the frame.

I had the same problem with the rearset mounts. Just cut them off and have some 1/2" steel plate welded onto the frame. Just make sure you drill and tap for the new rearsets before you have them welded. An advantage is that you can run any rearset you want to as long as the shift linkage is the same. I'm running aftermarket GSXR1000 rearsets on mine. Here is a pic of the frame with the new mounts. Only problem with doing it is that you will have to have the frame repainted.

shipping a frame isnt that bad. i got some shrink wrap from home depot, wrapped the frame in the redish floor coverign paper, and shrink wrapped, think it only cost like $65 through DHL, of course that was over a year ago, and DHL not around anymore
I did that.

Hey Rob, is there a specific reason you went with 1/2" plate? I was thinking more along the lines of 1/4". You drilled and tapped the holes BEFORE welding them? They didnt warp at all? I would have thought you should drill and tap AFTER the plate was welded to the frame, that way any warpage that occured during welding wouldn't affect anything... IDK

With 1/2" you shouldn't have to worry about warp. That is some massively thick stuff and the heat needed to get it to meld with the frame won't be enough to warp. Trying to drill and tap those plates after you have them on the frame will be a pain in the ass. You could probably get away with 1/4" but sometimes overkill is awesome. :)

Damn that is going to be hot, I have one of those swingers in my garage......I need todo that, But my project is being put on hold for a while until my hours even out.

so did they just make spacers? or did they have to grind the frame down? and are you going to use the fzr pivot bolt so it set in the frame?
