Re: I'm doing a 99-02 r6 nose and tail, UPDATED

Post by Genesis »

Well I have a no Update, My hours where cut 20% last October, then cut 50%-60% in Dec.-Feb., I am back on full time for now, But it is not Guranteed, and we are still looking at moving to NZ, But slim chance. I did start working on my bike today, and meet someone that is going to help me make a plate for the speed sensor. then I should be bolting other thing back together and riding, I would post pictures But noothing has changed, I did get my R1 guages mounted today, and hook up the plug I had already wiried for the r6 guage turned on my bike and it seems to work. I will be working on this more in the coming weeks so stay tuned for updates.

Shred your build is coming along nicely.

Does anyone have an inexpensive source for R1 temp sensors?

I was reviewing the thread and Dam-it Yam93, you got me thinking, I try not to do too much of that as it costs me money. I think I am going to try to use Plastex to make copys of the top of the r6 upper side fairings I got, just not sure how to do it, I guess I will order a kit and do some test.

http://home.att.net/~g.t.motorsports/store.html

Quick update I have the front fairing somewhat permanently installed now, But it has been so long, I have lost track of what the three wires are, that I have left to hook up, so I have to sort that out, I might just have to unwrap the harness I made. I will post some pictures tonight. I sort-of have a goal to get the rear swinger on.

Does anyone have some later fzr adjustment end caps? the swinger I found did not have any.

And I also still need a r-1 temp sensor

Does any have a picture of the choke side of a YZF carb and a FZR carb? I am thinking about seeing if I can modify the fzr choke to take the YZF cable.

Just buy the cable from a 95-96 model YZF600. The part number is - 4JH-26331-00

The cable is twice as long as the FZR one but will mount right up to the FZR choke lever. I had to buy a full choke lever assembly from eBay last week to figure this out.

Really don't need to. If you look at the one for the FZR, it looks just like that cable only longer.

What are you doing that requires a different cable? The standard FZR cable will work on the FZR carbs. The YZF cable is different depending on years as the switch changed (95-96 and 97+) which is not interchangable. The 95-96 uses a straight cable just like the FZR and runs to a choke lever on the side of the frame. The 97+ runs to a lever attached to the left handlebar switch. You can put the 95-96 cable directly onto the choke lever of the FZR with no problems but the length will create issues if it is attached to a set of FZR carbs.

Then you need the choke cable that matches the R6 switch you are using. You can reference the micro fiche to see if the switch is the same between the YZF600 and the R6. If it is, I've got an extra cable I'll send you for shipping (like $5). If it is not the same, you will need to get the R6 cable then.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures, I made a little progress, I finally got a plate jbwelded into place, and the FJR speed sensor mounted, everything worked great. I also got most of the rear suspension put back together, the r6 shock, dog bones, and newer FZR swinger mounted, it went together like stock.

I did not intend on doing the YZF600r gas tank right now, But I could not help myself and took it apart. On that subject what do I need for mounting the YZF600r tank, I have a tank, of course, and a FZR1000 front bracket on its way, Do I need anything else? How did you mount the Gas Pump? What did you do with the Coolant fill neck? I guess I will Be doing the Heath r6 tail swap right now as well.

One other question, I'm missing something from my rear wheel? I thought there were some sort of rubber ring around the hub, are they called a cush drive?

Here is a web page I have some pictures I have been using along the way

for those that did the yzf600 tank swap, what did you do with the radiator cap? it seems to be hitting the bracket on the front of the tank. I was wondering if I could just bypass the the filler cap? I also removed one of the rubber cushions consequently moving the bolt heads up from the filler cap. But would like to keep the cushion in place.

I did some very preliminary fitting of the YZF600 tank, I can't wait to get this mounted, I have a FZR1000 front bracket, and rear bracket on its way, so it should make it simple to mount it.

It is also setting on its own suspension now, although I think something is wrong it is rock solid, the suspension does not compress at all, wondering if there is some type of adjustment I need to make. it is also rubbing the inside of the boss for the front peg, just a little though.

I also got some good info on using the fzr400 airbox, the outside dimension are exactly the same, But the Carbs line further back on the FZR400 airbox vs the FZR600 airbox, so it shifts the airbox forward.
