Re: HOW-TO: YZF600R Swingarm Conversion Write-Up <Updated>
Hey guys this is my first post on here. Nice forum with a great write up first and foremost.
I'm helping a friend with a 1992 fzr 600 do a yzf swingarm conversion and there are a few things we can't quite figure out from the write ups.
I already ordered a 03-06 zx6r 14t front sprocket.
we already have:
yzf rear wheel with sprocket.
stock fzr caliper and rotor.
new set of bushings.
we are looking to order a chain and i am not sure which to get
i found a 520x120 for 40 bucks shipped. will that work?
what is the difference between o-ring and non o-ring chains?
thanks in advance and once again awesome forum.

Unless you use 520 front and rear sprockets, then the 520 chain will not work. The stock FZR used a 530 chain/sprockets. Not exactly sure what the stock size was the for YZF600 - might be 525.cooper232 wrote:i found a 520x120 for 40 bucks shipped. will that work?

Can you buy a chain without o-rings? O-rings reduce link friction by separating the links with rubber washers. They still need to be lubricated often. But, you want a chain with o-rings. They have several variations available: http://www.rkexcelamerica.com/street_rk_chain.html

The YZF600 also used a 530 as the stock chain size. You can buy a chain without o-rings but it for very light duty and wouldn't stand up to the abuse that a motorcycle would put out.

Re: HOW-TO: YZF600R Swingarm Conversion Write-Up <Updated>
The 520 conversion is important to the swap. I wont say its a necessity since I havent tried the 530, but from what I can tell, you need the 520. the front sprocket needs to be spaced out to line up with the rear and it gets mighty close to the sprocket cover. using the 520 allows the chain to clear the cover. If you go without the cover or swap a hydraulic slave cylinder, it wont matter, but with the cover, Id say go 520.

the front sprocket u ordered is a 520 sprocket im assuming ..cooper232 wrote:Hey guys this is my first post on here. Nice forum with a great write up first and foremost.

the rear sprocket on the yzf600 cush is 530 oem so you will need a yzf600r 520 sprocket for the rear .. if you can find a 520 120 link for 40 bucks thats super cheap but i dont think it is O-ring ..

Hi,Aivars wrote:The axle is longer and thicker in '91 than in '89, and that thing that holds the brake cliper- the hole for the axle is to small. Ill try to mount it, thank you for your reply
you can just drill it to the correct size and if later you use asmaller axle on another set up use aspacer & sleeve for it as i have done on many occassions.
see:-

And its contents on swing arm swaps
Re: HOW-TO: YZF600R Swingarm Conversion Write-Up <Updated>
wow thanks for all the responses guys. i have a better understanding now.
the front sprocket i ordered was a renthal 520 so now i need to order a 47 or 49 tooth yzf600 520 rear sprocket.
about how much should i expect on paying for a good chain and how many links will it take?

Re: HOW-TO: YZF600R Swingarm Conversion Write-Up <Updated>
so do i use the yzf pivot bushings or the fzr pivot bushings? anyone got a good link to order those? i cant find anything on google about them.
so now i have the front and rear 520 sprockets and chain ordered
i have the yzf swingarm with a 99r6 rear wheel
fzr calipers and rotors
i am guessing the only thing left are those bushings and the little bit of grinding that has to be done.

Not quite .. you should have introduced yourself in the INTO section of this forum .. There's a Search option also .. Not trying to sound like a @$$ ..Just Giving you a warm welcome ..
The r6 wheel. is it 3 spoke or 5 spoke .. You will need special bushing for the rear wheel if your are trying to fit a R6 wheel onto the YZF600r swingarm ..That i know for sure .. Now how much and all that good stuff is on the forum somwhere ..
If i recall i used the FZR pivot and swingarm axle & nut if im not mistaking. Could be other way round nto sure Dammnit ..Have memory problem . so many mods forget which one is which .

Re: HOW-TO: YZF600R Swingarm Conversion Write-Up <Updated>
the r6 wheel is a 3 spoke wheel. i've already had the machining done to make it mate up to the yzf swingarm. it's already assembled.
Re: HOW-TO: YZF600R Swingarm Conversion Write-Up <Updated>
If youre using the R6 wheel in the YZF swingarm, you also have to turn down the sprocket hub for alignment. Im assuming youve done this if youve already had the spacers machined, but Ill say it anyway just for diligence sake. If so, youre good to go. The YZF and FZR pivot bearings are the same ID, which means the YZF and FZR pivot bushings are the same OD and also use the same size through bolt. You can actually use either pivot bushing, but if you use the FZR pivot bushing, it is already the correct width. If, like me, you dont have the fzr bushing because I sold off my stock parts to fund the swap, you can use the YZF bushing and cut it down to size. But that is hardened steel and not the easiest thing to cut cleanly and precisely in the average backyard/home garage. So if youve got it, use the FZR one and just get new bearings from your dealer or online parts suppliers. I also used the stock FZR pivot bolt and nut as well.
As to the brakes, youll probably have to use the R6 stuff. The YZF and FZR caliper is the same PN and the rotors' only difference is the crossdrill pattern, but the R6 wheel is wider, so alignment may become an issue. I dont have one for reference, but I dont think the bolt pattern for the rotor is the same either. Check ABS's write up on the R6 to YZF swingarm for more info.
