George, Im really feeling that now. Im trying to set up all my wireing so it fits in my subframe, not easy. Also can a solid state battery be mounted on its side?

Rusty,
since the battery is "solid" then i would assume yes but you know what they say about assumptions. I would read the manufacturers blurb on their web site to be sure !

with the subframe mounts where you have the bolts going threw the existing frame i drilled out the holes bigger and put in some steel collars/bushings so you can get the bolts tight. the square tubing seems weak and will most likely start to crush over time but looks good otherwise.

Good call +5 on the stress relief tubes.
ideally these should be welded in place so that vibration will not allow them to cut through the frame in an oval holed fashion.

The inlet length is "tuned" to the outlet length (exhaust pipe ) & the engines needs to make it work fairly efficiently.

If you use just the pods mounted on the carbs the length between the pod cap & the carb mouth "stiffles" the engines breathing. Thus requiring extensive re-tuning of the carbs with fresh jets / needle position etc.

Just about every Forum dealing with m/cycles has great screeds of material about just what a PITA this is to do.

How ever if you mount the pod the same distance away from the carb as the air box was (I.E. the inlet tract remains the same) there is virtually no need to re-tune ( although re-synching the carbs is advised)

some old geezer remembered this awhile back & posted it here, that is the problem with getting older you forget stuff you learned way back when OR you remember and forget to tell people .........................

i havent mounted it yet but im probally just going to use an r6 battey for the 07 its a complete subframe tail setup so it should fit like stock

Here are my latest pictures, I dont really like where I have the battery placed but I really couldnt find anywhere else. All I have left is to buy a passenger seat, gas cap, and passenger pegs

the battery there does help lower the C of G of the bike which helps handling. In that location it will get showered with road grime & in wet weather possibly be shorted out

. So may I suggest a rear wheel hugger be added to the shopping list OR a home made fibre glass cap for the battery box

Or get a abttery that will fit the R1 battery box. OR just make your own 4cell LiPo battery,

Use the battery for the subframe. Im running a sealed 06 R1 battery in the stockish location. I did have to make my own front seat bracket, which I made out of aluminum strips. IIRC, I had to shave the underside of the seat and trim the tank a little as well, but otherwise it worked out well. Its definitely not easy to fit all the wiring and relays in there either. I am running a harness from a 97 FZR, so it has the plug for the newer style VR. I stuck the VR underneath the bolt in X bracket under the rear seat. Im not sure if your subframe is the same, but I imagine it is similar, or has maybe a little more room, since mine is cutout for undertail exhaust, I dunno. Once I got that out of the way, I was able to situate the relays and fuses in a decent manner. Ive got a few good pics of how everything is oriented under the seats, but cant seem to find them right now. Ill keep looking. I wouldnt put the old style VR inside like that though with their tendency to overheat. Im glad I upgraded to the newer style with my current setup.
