Re: New Upper R6/R1
you need a fairing stay for sure to mount your upper, gauges...lights etc. fairings wont fit on so you will have to cut and add new mounting supports for them...same with the tail.
i was gonna do what your doing but costs for it are not worth it and i am doing a hybrid. i went with 91 upper and customized some halogen lights in.
its alot of trail and error with what your gonna be doing. if you got time and money got at it...but it may take a lot of time.

Re: New Upper R6/R1
If all your changing is the lights, then it is simple. You may not even need the wire harness from the R1. The connectors are the only parts that are important. Depending on the type of bulb, could probably find connectors for it. If not then you need the R1 wires to cannibalize. If you are changing out the gauges as well then your looking at a lot of work.Fizzinatorr wrote:I've never wired different headlights...i can do a bit with wiring though
unfortunately i'm having a hard time finding the 2002-2003 headlight for under 190.00 and the wiring harness seems to be around 50.00 is there a way to create my own wiring for the headlights since i'll have to be slicing anyways, basically what i'm asking is getting the R1 wiring harness 100% necessary?
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Re: New Upper R6/R1
Call a dealer and ask them the number of bulbs and the bulb types for the different year R1 and R6 models. If the bulb types are the same, you can buy a different wire harness since all you want is the bulb connectors. Or a michro fische might have the info.

Re: New Upper R6/R1
I don't think you need to buy a headlight harness. Here's why -Fizzinatorr wrote:looks like i can get away with just part number 9 right?

The red circles are the bulb connectors for a FZR1000 (90). They are H4 bulbs and it looks like the R1 is using H4 bulbs as well. They should plug right in. The other little wire that is shown is for a turn signal bulb that is inside the headlight assembly. You don't need it as long as you are running the standard turn signals.
Just wait on the wire harness for now.

Re: New Upper R6/R1
I have a serious doubt that they are as good as they are advertising. Main reason is they keep compairing it to a HID which a halogen bulb is not a HID. Even if it is filled with the correct gas. But, for the price it is hard to resist trying them. The last pair of Sylvaina SilverStar bulbs I bought was about $30. The only down side to the higher performance aftermarket bulbs is that they dont last nearly as long.
If you do get them, be sure to tell us what you think of them.

Re: New Upper R6/R1
You might loose the high beam. At that color spectrum and light intensity, you generally do loose it. But if the bulbs really are that bright then who cares. It will be a lot brighter that stock ever was.
I can relate to the ebay thing. Latley I've been clicking out of ebay and into my bank account to remind me that I can't buy anything else right now. Is there an AA program for ebay shopping? LOL I might need to join.
